Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
« on: October 03, 2014, 02:00:45 PM »

I finally manged to get round to reading Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. I found it an excelent read to be honest. The main character, Jorg, isn't a good guy really; He's amoral to the point of being brutal about it. If you got turned off the first few chapters in first book in the first Chornicles of Thomas Covenant then you probably wont like this eaither. Yet thinking about it, I never really got to dislike Jorg either which is a little disturbing. That could be because he's rather charismatic in a blunt and sarcastic way? I dunno.

It starts as a fairly typical fantasy but then the main character starts talking about Shakespeare, Plato, etc things start slotting in to place that its a post-apocalytic Earth. Europe when you look at the map (I didn't, until I had almost finished it).

The only thing that bugs me about the book is the age of the main character. He's supposed to be 14 year old, which comes across as rather ridiculous when you read it. The author could have just as easily made him 17/18 and it wouldn't have changed anything. It would be more believable to be honest. Still I managed to ignore it after while.

I'm starting to read the second one now.

The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big mouth.......
