Ok, first of all: I'm sure that Terry Brooks has written lovely books and is a good author.
However, I'm going to be upfront about this: I feel like his writing style is suited for children. It's a mixture of USA culture, cliches and a simplicity better fit for a child's mindframe.
I just... had to wrestle myself through 3/4 of the book Wizard at Large, you know? And in no way it's tempting me to read further to read the ending. It doesn't matter that I know that I know it's going to be happily ever after again, it's just that the book is just a bore most of the time.
I have the feeling, and this could very well be an incorrect bias/assumption, because Wizard at Large is the only book I read of him, and perhaps the rest of his work is much better, but that he was published in a time when there weren't much other fantasy authors?
Either way Wizard at Large is like the 7th Dark Tower book all over again: a pain in the ass to finish.
