New rules on spam threads
« on: October 09, 2004, 06:50:27 PM »

So-called "spam threads" which had gotten completely out of control and had to be closed, will now be tentatively re-opened. To keep these threads open, all members must read and comply with the new rules.

Posting in any thread marked as spam will have this icon beside the thread link : . Any thread that is opened can be reviewed by a staff member and, if it is marked as spam, it will be edited to say that it is a spam thread and all members must post within the rules.

Posting in a spam thread is limited to ONE post per 24 hours. What this means is you may only post in a spam thread once each day (board time). If you want, you may post in the thread at 11:59PM and again at 12:01AM. But if you do that you forfeit your post for the day and must again wait until 12:01AM the NEXT day.

Any member who posts more than once in a spam thread will recieve one block on their warning bar as stated in THIS THREAD. If the thread is being abused it will be closed indefinitely.

The only exception to this rule is when a moderator or administrator is making an off-topic post for any reason. These will usually only occur when they close a thread that is being abused.

Keep in mind that while these rules may seem harsh, they really aren't hard to follow. What we are trying to do is have the other forums open up more, but giving members the oportunity to have some mindless fun. The new rules are in place to keep the mindless fun from becoming the only thing people come here for.

This is primarily a Feist-based forum, not a PAM-PBM forum after all.

If you have any questions, you may send a mod or admin a PM.

I would like to take this time to clear up something. You may notice that in my post above, I mention that the time for judging posts in spam threads is measured by the board time, not indivudual member time settings. And the board time is GMT.

Okay, now go have some fun :)

You may have noticed that we have not been handing out warnings over the past couple of months for posting more than once a day in spam threads. We've also noticed that many of you have decided to start posting more than once a day. Nothing too extreem yet, just here and there. So if you are thinking that you can get away with it now, think again. Starting tomorrow there will be a blitz on spammers.

Please read the rules and do not spam.

Yet again I must point out that we measure spam by the board time (GMT) and NOT the individual timezone settings of each and every member. That means you may THINK you're not breaking the spam rule, but you find you have a warning the next time you log on. If you think this warning is a mistake, the FIRST THING you should do is to check if your timezone settings are set to GMT. If they are not, then you should set them to GMT and take a look at your two posts. You'll find that they are, in fact, considered spam.

Each staff member views the board in GMT, so the chance that a staff member makes a mistake in issuing a spam warning is miniscule.

PLEASE try to remember this. I'm getting sick of telling people this over and over again.

Its that time of year again, when we remind everyone about the rules of posting in spam threads.

Please read this topic a lot, as it WILL keep you from being banned

When creating a spamthread, use the following tag in the first post:

[spam]None[/spam]

This will show a box with the standard rules for spamthread, by writing something inbetween the tags you can add an extra rule to it yourself. It's recommended to use the list-tag with it: [list][*]Rule 1[*]Rule 2[*]etc.[/list]

Example:

[spam][list]
  • Thou shall read this very well or the staff will smite thee![/list][/spam]
[spam]Thou shall read this very well or the staff will smite thee![/spam]

I can't ban him, either, as he's been banned before. WTF.
