The Flash (TV)
« on: October 21, 2015, 06:36:53 AM »

I was bored and looking for something to watch on Netflix this evening, but they didn't have what I was looking for so I decided to give The Flash a go. So far, I'm three episodes in and enjoy it... though I have to fight the urge to livecast some smart ass comments about it in FB chat. Any of you watching this?

So I've been making random comments in fb chat since I started watching, but I started putting those comments into a note at episode five. I'll probably do this for every episode. Not going to make a lick of sense if you haven't watched the series though.

The Flash Episode 5

- Clancy Brown! I guess it makes sense to give him a live action role, what with him voicing characters in just about every cartoon that DC makes.

- I'm disappointed that 'The Streak' isn't literally streaking in this episode. They had a chance and they failed to follow through.

- Good to see that Iris remains as oblivious as ever. Hey, uh, yeah... just get mad at your best friend instead of thinking about why he is suddenly pushing you away from investigating The Streak.

- I still think they really need to move away from that name. Or give him a brown suit. One or the other. I don't mind which.

- Breaking and entering is the easiest thing to do in this universe, apparently. Every two-bit villain in this show is an f'ing master of it.

- All these white women look alike. Every time this Bette chick shows up, I think it is Caitlin. Either they need better casting or there may be something wrong with me.

- "OMG you've been shot!" "Just a flesh wound." "Oh shit, it's a tracker!" Yeah, no one saw that coming.

- Iris breaks the ice with The Streak by telling him how lame her friend is.

- Someone graduated from the JJ Abrams school of lens flair. Unfortunately, blinding your viewers isn't going to help keep The Streak's identity safe.

- Bomb lady can't join the team because she blows stuff. I feel like this episode is dissing Gambit.

- I like it when Joe gets all giddy about the cool stuff Barry can do.

- Wells remains the best character in this series. He's brilliant and full on Yandere and it is a amazeballs.

- Iris still failing to put one and one together. They need to do better with this character.

- DRAMA!

It's not available on the Dutch Netflix. I will not rant about that, seeing that brings us to a whole other kind of discussion.

As for the Flash, I don't really know him. And whenever I hear Flash, I think of Flash Gordon and hear Freddie Mercury singing: Flash a-ah. Savior of the Universe. Flash a-ah. He'll save every one of us!

Episode Six

- I want to know what blogging platform Iris uses. It may be the only interesting thing about her.

- What a waste of a Hummer.

- Oh, it's Bro-Colossus.

- This might sound out-there, but maybe try sharing the existence of meta-humans with the police. You know, maybe try to save some lives?

- I like Cop Castiel.

- Six episodes in and no one has stopped to say, 'Hey, maybe we should get this geek some fighting lessons.'

- Iris continues to be a goddamn idiot.

- That's a neat trick vibrating your vocal chords and face, Barry. Can, uh, can you vibrate other body parts like that?

- The villains in this show are really halfhearted in their efforts to kill Barry. It is actually kind of interesting.

- The only hope you have of beating Bro-Colossus is to be a Jedi, Barry. There is no emotion, only peace. With peace comes steel-shattering punches, yo.

- I don't mind the dude who plays Barry, but he really fails at his delivery sometimes. Okay, more than sometimes. Alright, so he's the weakest actor of the lot.

- That whole not letting people in on the meta-human thing is really coming back to bite these people in the ass.

- Also, Bro-Colossus is really stealthy for walking slag.

- Barry should probably stop sharing his identity with everyone, especially villains. Especially before locking those villains away in your secret human rights violation of a prison.

- Iris' vaunted intuition is crap.

- Finally, a name change.

- I agree, Joe, this power is absolutely terrifying when in the wrong hands.

Regional licensing sucks.

I am not a comics reader, so my experience with this character and others are all pulled from the various DC animated series.

It may not surprise you that such animated series were not part of the regular Dutch cartoon palette in the past. These days though there's of course the internet, but to be honest with the free time I have, watching an unknown US DC comic series has an extremely low priority. ;)

So it's not really helpful to become acquainted with the Flash. Could be though that if they make a good movie about him, I would then be more eager to watch the tv series on him. OR of course raving reviews here. ;)

I really enjoy the show, it's just fun. I think it's only increased in quality with every episode in Season 1, and Season 2 is shaping up really good already. I like Barry's relationships with his "3 dads" (Joe, Wells and his actual dad) and the rest of the team are cool dudes. I haven't seen you make any comment about Cisco yet James, what do you think of him?

I stopped posting these because the show was getting better with each episode (except Iris). I like Cisco. He's the goof of the party and does great work and they are using him for serious stuff, too. He just doesn't do much to make me comment.
