Title: What games have you played recently?
Post by: Great One on July 05, 2005, 03:28:01 AM
The topic title says it all - tell us what games you guys have been playing recently and let us know whether or not they're any good.

I've been re-playing Football Manager a lot recently. It's a great game any football fan would love to play. It's a little easy playing with the big teams for guys like me (:P), so I normally go for a challenge managing teams like Southampton.

well i haven't played games as much since my life now consists mostly of work and sleep. the latter is fun time.

mostly playing Age of Empires 2 when i do play. I recently found out i could kick the crap out of all my friends at it at LAN and just made me feel good. so i play it now. too bad i uninstalled before. i no longer have the patch that keeps the AI from quitting 5 minutes into the game when playing Random map.

other than that not much else

I have not played a game for at least 4 months now since I left Sydney, there all I played was Warcraft 3 or Counter-strike. I am very behind on games released.

Dont play many at the moment and my PC isn't powerful enough to play modern games.... It's only a 700 mhz Athlon.

So it's Icewind Dale at the moment. Not as good as Baulders Gate 1/2 but I like being able to custom build my own parties.

Others include Civ 2, Jedi Knight and the Realms of the Dragon MUD.

^ I hate when that happens. :depressed: I used to get hit with that all the time when I played Halo. I think my x-box decided I wasn't worthy of playing a game of it's high magnitude or something. b****...

I've been playing Knights of the Old Republic II again a lot more recently. I've never played my full way through as a Sith, but I think this will be my first. I'm looking forward to starting another civil war. :D That was my favourite moment in the two KOTOR games put together. Good stuff.

I haven't played Jade Empire. I was going to buy it, but the funds were low at the time, and since then it's just never came to mind. I expect it's good being made by Biowares. Those guys did an excellent job with the KOTOR games.

Bioware was already busy with other projects such as Jade Empire and Neverwinter Nights 2 so they handed KOTOR2 to Obsidian.
Jade Empire is even better than i expected.. really big improvement for Bioware. you should give it a try. The fighting system is fantastic.

About 4 years ago, when i was living in Queensland, i bought Black and White but have hardly played it. But a few dayz ago i decided to install it again and have another crack at playing it. Now ive actually tried playing it, im pretty addicted. Really good game, but can take some time to get used to and tends to take awhile to complete missions and such.

Cant seem to find out how to play Online =\ asks me for a Password but doesnt ask if i want to Register a Character.  :elf_gloop:

dude, my xbox never ever crashed...

but since i didn't had better things to do, i started playing The Sims. it's quite a fun, reasonably addictive game to play, but one thing always struck me as weird. i don't know how many people are familiar with the game, but you have to send your little people to the toilet now and then to empty their bladder. but the bladder does not get emptied when a sim takes a shower, even though we all know everyone takes a p**s when he's in the shower (even if you say you don't)

*shakes head* Baz, Baz....

I've been playing Halo 2 againt the last 2 days. It's quite hard actually playing on legendary or heroic level. I'm the adventurous type and don't like hiding around, so I usually get killed quite a bit. :D

Too bad the last level is damn near impossible on Legendary. Especially because they got rid of Piggybacking (one person stays behind, other goes ahead and kills things until he dies, and respawns with partner.)

I've been playing Knights Online. (http://www.knightonlineworld.com/) Pretty fun game.

I played Revenge of the Sith for a couple of hours today. It's pretty good - nothing on KotOR though. The fighting gets a bit repetitive and annoying, so you can't sit for hours at it. The key to defeating Dooku is watching how he moves and knowing when to block. I found that a little crap, but meh...it's only a game.

Call of Duty is a great game...I bought it right when it first came out and had so much fun playing multiplayer online and at LAN Parties I only recently (like two weeks ago) played through the Single Player campaign (though you're talking about the PS2 game, not the PC one).

For myself I've been spending all my time between Battlefield 2 and Warcraft III mods (like Battleships and Line Tower Wars).  Battlefield 2 is just a great game that is all the more fun when people work as a team.  Warcraft III is an oldie but goodie that has stayed popular thanks to the mod community.

I'm patiently waiting for the Expansion to Warhammer 40k:  Dawn of War entitled "Winter Assault".

I was playing Revenge of the Sith on my Xbox for a few hours last night. It's a lot better than the Gameboy Advance version (as you can imagine). I like seeing the cut scenes in between the fighting. :) The free control fighting is the kind of thing i'd like to see installed in the new KotOR game. They would still need to tidy up a few specs of it though...

you have to do korriban before you get to the leviathan

another cool thing :

on dantooine is a female jedi who is friends with Juhani. If you kill Juhani in the grove and then talk to her friend she will abuse you and run off.

you can then fight her outside the sith academy entrance on korriban.

After watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children the other day, I, like many of my fellow Final Fantasy fans, picked up the game to play for the 12th friggin' time.  I must say, no matter how many times I play this game, it's never been boring.  This time I'm goin' all the way though, every character (besides Aeris) is gonna be level 99 when I go up against Sephiroth, with their final limit breaks, best weapons and all of the materia they're holding mastered.  Oh it's gonna be glorious... :P

I played through Republic Commando last week. Its short, but really, really, REALLY well done. The squad AI is fantastic, and the enemies also work in effective squads which makes the game quite challenging without resorting to the old "throw endless waves of enemies at the player" routine. Really slick gameplay, excellent controls, fantastic sound, music, and voice overs, and a really good story.

If it was just a LITTLE bit longer i'd have said it was a perfectly executed game, but its just too short. Even on the hardest difficulty level I finished it in 2 days  :depressed:  Here's hoping for an expansion soon!

Rented out Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on the weekend and beat it. It was damn easy like all Metal Gear Solid games are, but i have to say it was pretty good, it was actually different for a change, cause Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was practically the same as the first one on PlayStation. But im looking forward to March when the Revised Edition of MGS 3 comes out, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, cause it has the Original MGS games on it, Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

But yeah, it was a good play, fun and i could play it again and again.

It's based on the famous Agatha Christie novel.

I have just completed Call of Duty on the PC for the second time, first time was well over a year ago. I might get United Offencive next. Is UO a good expansion pack?

I played them CoD & CoD:UO both and UO is slightly more intensive... watch for bullets... and you are generally outnumbered...

One quick lesson within CoD: if you are too slow forfulling your mission more reinforcements arrive in the enemies camp. Especially the last mission is very intense, you need to try and solve your mission A.S.A.P. or you will be overrun...

Honestly, it wasn't very good so paying $20 to get it on the Xbox is the better choice.

Edit: Never mind I thought you said you did not want to get it on Xbox. Well I don't believe Microsoft/Bungie has any plans to bring it to PC at the moment. Bungie is working on Halo 3 at the moment.

Well, after quite some time not playing video games (had to spend time working my way through my DVD collection, which is still growing beyond my own ability to control) I picked up my trusty PS2 and started playing Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which I was given last Christmas.  Before last night I had only played a little of it and for some reason never picked it back up.  Just fell out of the video game mood, I guess.  Oh well, I'm back playing it and I love it!  Go Snake! :soldier:

I was at a Halo LAN Party last night and it was awesome. It's annoying having just a little box of the screen to play from, but eventually you get used to it. At the end I can proudly say I was back at my best.  6 kills in a row isn't bad, me thinks.  It's funny hearing people cursing after they've just been killed by someone in the room.

Right, so here's the deal...

I was planning on playing a good solid 4 or 5 hours of The Matrix: Path of Neo (which I got over Christmas and hadn't had a chance before then) today. I reckoned the game would be pretty sweet and wouldn't need to worry about getting annoyed and not being able to do the time. However, I have one of the most irritating and annoying brothers God has ever created *cheers*. So I had to play with him on the Xbox for a little bit...he picked ROTS. Coulda been worse...I contiounsly kicked his a** for about 45 mins, and in which he got seriously p**sed.  Mission solved...'p**s off, kevin' But didn't work, he reckoned that we should play another game. So just keeping in mind that'd i'd be rid of him if I inflicted another thrashing upon him. The fool picked Halo 2.  Anyway, turns out he wasn't half bad...and i'm not as good playing when I don't have my usual full screen while at Halo. So, the practice would be good....we played for like 2 hours or something.

I got 10 mins of Path of Neo.   It's not the type of game to only play for half an hour, me thinks. So tomorrow i'll try it again. Looks a pretty sweet game tho

I just recently got a new computer, so i've been benchmarking it with some "old" games, ones with steep system requirements. So far, the most amazingly enjoyable suprise has been Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines. That game was literally unplayable with my old system, a system that met all the required specs and then some I might add, but now its totally fun and playable and I am really enjoying it!

Other benchmarking fun games include

Thief 3 - a truly amazing game.

Call of Duty 2 - just...way too much fun. I especially enjoyed seeing, in detail, some of the places members of my family actually fought in.

Morrowind - With everything at max you can get past the hideous character designs and get into a freaking awesomely beautiful environment!

Deus Ex 2 - meh...

Halo - Yup, still boring, but slightly prettier

Republic Commando - Awesome game that is even awesomer with 100% graphic goodies enabled! The trooper visor graphics made me cream my pants!

Oh, there's more, but I'm a little busy with the drinking and eating roti.

Taa!

As soon as I saw this i went and got the demo.  They are giving lots of bandwith so the 450-ish meg download only took like 18 minutes or so.

Feels very familar and they did not mess with the feel of the game.  I see it is a different studio made it and not Looking Glass.  But seems ok.  2004 release I should be able to pick up for 20 bucks canadian somewhere.

Looking Glass went under right after finishing Thief 2, or Thief Gold, don't remember which, but most of the production team from the Thief games worked on this latest one, as Looking Glass was absorbed by Eidos.

Been playing a fair bit of Morrowind these days, with the release of Oblivion being only a little way away, i figured id get back into the swing of things.

First of all, I kicked some a** at the Mages Guild missions, but due to the sign i chose for my char, "Atronach", raising mana-using skills is really hard, i cant go rest for mana to regen, i have to fight mana-using enemies and drain their spells.

So yeh, then i did the Thieves Guild, in short, i now own the guild.

Then i started following the actual story of the Incarnate, so damn easy when you already have two guilds almost finished and about 10-15 levels on where you should be for that area...

but yeh...fun game.

Takes about 10 mins to walk to the Urshilaku camp, as well as another good 10 mins to do Caius first mission, even if you know where the puzzle box is. Then theres also that you have to do missions in your other guilds before he even gives you the next set.

Also where is that dude/chicks Devil Tanto in the Al'druhn Mages Guild I have to get for a Thieves Guild mission, and also has anyone found this secret-ish Temple of Azure (I think) and got Azure(I think)'s Star, whereas to me the use is as yet undefined? oh yea, to move real fast on computer

Devil Tanto is in a Lock Level 25 box...its like down the stairs and then chuck a right.

Azura's Star is a re-usable soul gem that can hold any soul of any size, yes I have it, p**s easy quest.

The set speed should never be used over 100, any more and you are literally uncontrollable. Check out the Boots Of Blinding Speed for comparisons.

Baldur's Gate is a good series. Although I disliked Throne of Baal a little (which I usually call BGIII, because that is what it esentially is!), I liked the two main games. BGI has the better storyline, but BGII the better gameplay. Altogether they are more or less equal. Although I preferred the class choices you had in the second one.

Well it took me several tries WITHOUT CHEATING but I did finaaly get it right what you do is
Start the game and raid the house
sell the stuff and stock up on potions
find the guy with the scrolls of incarian flight just outside where you start
use them in conjunction with a slowfall potion jump to the big mountain grad keening or sunder
then go in beat the crap in to the heart once again using the scrolls to strand him on the bottom level and using the potion to retore health and eh presto you are done
dagoth ur is defeated and according the both every reveiw and, after some debate, the community of the of the official elder scrolls site and forum this consitutes completion of the game

Uhh...you cant WIELD Sunder and Keening without getting Wraithguard, otherwise touching either Sunder or Keening will kill you. You get Wraithguard by following the main quest until Vivec gives it to you.

I'd also say completion of the main quest means following the path of the Incarnate, ie, becoming Nerevarine of the Tribes and Hortator of the Great Houses. Being accepted by Azura as the Incarnate and Vivec himself recognising you as Lord Nerevar Indoril.

Those older DOS games do poccess a certain charm.

I've started playing Thief: Deadly Shadows. Loving it... it's perfect for my sneaky personality! There's just one thing bothering me - the monitor is standing with its back to the window... That, along with the fact that it's old and not as bright anymore, ensures that I can only play Thief after dark, otherwise I'm unable to make out anything. And since summer is coming, it only gets dark at about 21 pm around here... *wince*

I believe I won't be able to get myself Black & White2 or Oblivion unless we bought a new computer. Even if the prices dropped to be acceptable....
My friend has both of them and enjoys torturing me with tales about this or that and how great the games are.

I wanted to get Black and White 2... but I'm afraid it will turn out as big a disappoinment as the first, so until I get concerete proof its good I won't get it.

Eleanor and the fallen angel turned into birds in my version as the both disappeared. Then the main char went home to join a religious order and become a pope or whatever. Birds accompanied him on his sea trip together.  Shittiest ending ever IMO, then again yours ain't that fantastic either

Thief is excellent at least - though it might get a bit scary playing the Cradle level after 9 at night.
I'd advise you to get Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (get the GOTY addition, which has both expansion packs which are both very worthwhile), if you can't get Oblivion, because it has much lower system requirements and IMO it's a better game overall. Sure, the graphics aren't quite as nice and the combat system does seem a little weak, but the atmosphere and story are amazing and the content is perhaps twice as much as that of Oblivion, without even including mods. And you can always get mods to improve the graphics and gameplay. It's also cheap.

I'm still playing Oblivion, but at the moment I'm not playing games much because exams are fast approaching.

Hitman on a beamer (wide screen gaming on the wall, while siting.. no lying on the couch.. doesn't get much better than that) and the new flat out.. wich is kinda boring.. but the mini games are really amusing. Shoot a crash test dummy from your hot ride on a dart board?? ... right... well I had a good time with it  ... oh and last but not least: Bubble bobble !! I used to play that as a kid and I came across a SNES emulator and the game in question. ton's of bubble bobble fun.

'Warhammer 40k: "Dark Crusade"' is a RTS, not a MMORPG.  Think "Starcraft 2" when you think of Relic's 'Warhammer 40k:  Dawn of War' and its two expansion packs ("Winter Assault" & "Dark Crusade").

'Warhammer:  Mark of Chaos" is an RTS as well, although it is along the lines of a 'Warcraft IV'.

(Blizzard borrowed heavily from the the Warhammer and Warhammer 40k Table top games when they made Warcraft and Starcraft).

Finaly we have "Warhammer Online:  Age of Reckoning", the Warhammer MMORPG...completely different than the one I'm talking about...

Aha! A warhammer fan

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on both WHO and Mark of Chaos (and the new DoW expansion of course) hopefully by the time WHO comes out I will have broadband and I will be able to play it.

Its looking good, but not half as good as the old one  Why did they have to cancel it...

I'm currently playing a bit of CABAL online. Its a bit of a mixture between WoW, Guildwars and older rpg's like Ragnarok.

The looks are decent enough, the gameplay is ok (pathfinding sucks though), the story doesn't really matter much.. the action is good though.
They really made the game feel a bit amateuristic though.. lots of typo's can be found both in the game and the website. And well you really need some time to figure things out.. but if youre playing it for one or two hours it all becomes clear (atleast it did for me.. but I got lots of rpg experience)

They are running a free trial period atm (7 days free playing.. thats why I tried it in the first place naturally ) So if anyone is interested in playing a mmorpg for a few days wich is actually quite nice, go to:http://www.cabalonline.com/

Been playing DragonFable, the new rpg from the creators of AdventureQuest, but at this point its in Beta and is only playable by people with a Guardian account for AQ (like me ).

Also been playing Mashed for the PS2. Great no-brains racing game in the classic style. And by that I mean its a top down view and you pick up weapons to blow up your opponents.

Good game for drinking.

I just got into AQ Poper, and I find it rather addictive, I'm only playing for a week or zo and I'm currently level 28 (Dracomancer level 1) so I've got lots to figure out yet

edit: DargonFable is available for everybody now (I know that because I'm playing it right now and I'm not a Guardian on AQ  )

go check it out 'cause it looks like a cool game to me  (www.dragonfable.com (http://www.dragonfable.com/))

I recently played ninety nine nights, wich is.. welll.. basically it sucks. Graphs are ok, gameplay is ok.. the special moves and combo's u can do are ok... but the AI of  your army and the opponents AI is well.. it makes people cry seriously... its so awfully awfully bad. Besides that the game is not really diverse wich means it will get boring quite soon. Also, you need to redo a lot of missions just to lvl up so u can get trough the next lvl.

I also played Dead Rising though.. wich was totally awsome . I just love the way u can basically use every object in your surroundings to hit or throw with.. I also like the fact that you are actually playing a freelance fotographer and that your best chances in game often are, avoid a lot of zombies. So you'r no super heroe killing zombies rambo style (allthough, when u finally found that chainsaw u can't get that nasty grin from your face) .. well I'd say if u are a xbox 360 player and looking for a worthy game, I can definetly reccomand Dead rising

Audition, wich is hilarous, its a dance mmorpg.. a bit like, DDR (dance dance revolution) but then online with groups, guilds, pairs, boys vs girls, and so on... its a bit .. well.. fluffy.. but I had some fun games, oh and its insanely hard! (its in open beta so u can try if u want )

Scions of fate: Boring >.< .. its like ragnarok without the cute hats and the adorable sprites. (wich only leaves the -for ever- lvl grinding)

Fury - I still need to tests this, its in beta atm, sounds very interesting  I'll let u know once I tried.

Prey, lost planet and Assassins creed are on my wishlist.

ive been playing oblivion lately, and i have to say i was disapointed, the gameplay was great and the graphics amazing but  after 35 hours of playing i completed the main quest, i wasn't even trying to finish it, it was way too short, and another game ive finished recently is twilight princess on the wii, is it me or is this game shallow? what i mean is that there are hardly any side quests, once youve finished the main story and got all the bugs and howling stones what else is left? no villagers to help? no cucco's to rescue? no spiders curse to lift? maybe im wrong but these were the two games ive been waiting years to play, especially oblivion. I am currently playing wii sports alot with the kids, that and monkey ball, fun games.

5 Differences (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/404448). It's nice and not too addicting. Good art. Ideal for small breaks.

I saw Dungeon Lords for like ten dollars, so I picked it up. The fact that my eyes did not bleed at the sight of the game is surprising. This game, despite being released within the last two years, looks like something from pre-Diablo days. Blockish, ugly, horrible effects and trasitions, and fog everywhere. The gameplay and controls were actually the worst parts though, warranting a quick uninstall and a place in a box.

I got an invitation to the beta of Tabula Rasa and will likely try it out sometime this week.

Well, seeing as I got a new PC recently, I have been able to play better games, haven't yet, but I'm working on it, I can play Oblivion and C&C 3 now, which i probably will at some stage, but so far, nothing.

Hm, I actually wouldn't mind owning and playing oblivion and C&C3. Oblivion has a good reputation and C&C3 just reminds me of the fun I had with the other C&C games.

Never liked WoW...played it as part of the Tuning Beta way back when, but it didn't hold my interest (although I've been playing Blizzard games since the Original Warcraft:  Orcs & Humans).

Right now I'm having fun with the Orange Box...mostly playing Team Fortress 2, but last night I gave Portal a try...and damn that's an interesting game...definately requires you to think outside the box a bit....

but MOSTLY i've been playing The Guild 2- sequel to Europa 1400 - The guild.

Really fun dynasty based stuff. i likes it. sadly 90% of its fan base is GERMAN and so most of the forums and fan pages are as well. le sigh.

Today ive been trying to fiddle with the game mechanics so i can marry old rich woman and inherit their cash when they die like i dud in Europa... not managed it yet but i shall perserveer.

Played NFS: Pro Street on the weekend. If you're expecting generic Need For Speed, then don't get this game, there is no accelerate and turn, plus changing gears if you want to. You need to brake for turns and you can take damage, and the first race (which I couldn't even finish) was in a racetrack, something tells me there won't be street racing, plus the fact that you can't do any sort of free roam thing.

To reiterate, if you can get past the first race, then good for you, get this game. If you expect generic Need For Speed, then don't get this game.

Halo 3. Couldn't meet the expected standards of what its players expected after playing two. But altogether an enjoyable game. LIVE Halo3 is also enjoyable. The ranking system is abit sus as you can be a novice put up against elite players.... And thats just a kick in the balls of fun... but its still worth it. Contamination... or Infection i think it might be? its a Zombie type gameplay with one alpha zombie that once killing someone spreads the infection and then there were two. Its alot of fun, with the catch that flying viechles wreck that gameplay. Zombies are three times as fast and can only use the sword, with no overshield at all except for the Alpha Zombie. Headshots are instant Zombie kills. The last non infected player gets bulkas bonuses. i had a 100+ killing spree with a flying viechle. very fun.

Been playing Zelda - The Twilight Princess lately, borrowed the game from a housemate. Quite a nice game, even though not really the genre I play I lot. Fishing in the game is quite relaxing though.
Also have played Super Mario Galaxy (not too recently, but still since last post) Fantastic game. Really one of the best games out at the moment. If you have a Nintendo Wii, you should certainly buy this game, if you don't have a Wii, you should get one and then buy this game (well, ok, maybe a bit over the top, but it's certainly a fantastic game)

Also still playing World of Warcraft, but that's hardly a surprise anymore...  :jester:

More and more Mass Effect. Yesterday was the biggest amount of time I've given to a game in a long, long time. I'm kind of more favoured towards it now. I'll need to open a thread to explain my long and complicated thoughts about this game. I'll wait until I've finished it. About 3/4's through now...

I've been playing the latest Elder Scrolls game 'Oblivion' lately. Took me a while, I know. I try to lead an interesting life...

Anywho, nice story: I got killed earlier by some people chasing me about a horse. One that I had stolen by accident (honest). I was actually seeking to chat with a woman or her friend, and clicked in the wrong direction (the horses) and ended up on top of a horse before I could blink. As you'd expect, trouble broke out and two City Guards that were stationed near the gates, close to the stables, came over to investigate. I didn't have a coin of gold to my name, not enough to bribe them or pay my fine, and I didn't fancy serving my time in jail (I don't mind it - you can sleep your way through, which is pretty funny), nor did I fancy my possessions being taken from me. So I took flight, made a get away on my new horse.

Alas, the horse didn't take a liking to me and was unwilling to consider me it's new master. So I wasn't going anywhere in a rush. I got off the damned horse, turned around to take a look back from whence I'd came and saw one of the stable women chasing after me. I fancied myself, took a stand and faced her off. My sword was quickly out and she was soon off in a hurry back to her stables. I walked forward a bit more, to see if the guards had returned to their posts, and noticed another one of the stable women was coming towards me with haste. I took a stand, once again, fancying my chances of prevailing. I'm supposed to be a Battlemage, how can I not handle a woman, even if I'm currently a low level one? I thought this and more.  Arrogance courses through my veins, sometimes. I kind of like it. However, this time I did not.

I took the woman alright, she was without a weapon, so I had an unfair advantage. Fair play to her, though - she was pretty quick on her feet and had good reflexes. My sword was true in the end, and I knocked her unconscious after a tirade of strong blows to her person. I looked down, thinking her dead, but she still had a strong pulse running through her, so I hacked her up a bit expecting her end to be near. Alas, that stable woman or whatever she truly was, definitely wasn't finished and got back up. How in all that is devine she achieved this, I don't know. I didn't have long to figure out though, because she hit me with a wicked hook to the jaw that sent my poor Elf falling to the ground.

Before I knew what had happened, the guards, the other woman I'd had a merry time slicing and dicing with, and the Invincible, as she'll be now known, were raining blows upon my sorry body. I died.

The end.

I started playing Guild Wars again. It has been a good long while, I got rather bored of it a few months back, despite the amount of new content I hadn't played through. But I got bored and started playing again (the game is a lot better on the new system, I can tell you, not having to wait five minutes for an area to load makes things a whole hell of a lot better) and am slowly regaining interest.

I also played a bit of D&D Online through a trial pass, but just like before ( I have tried it before, didn't really like it, but that was mostly because of the bad lag I got from my shitty sys specs).) I did not like it. This time it was because the content was crap, not my system.

I would be playing Oblivion, but it is not installing properly on my system.

Ah...I developed such problems, after a while, with Morrowind on my PC. Not good at all.

I would be playing Oblivion more myself, but due to time constraints and the f**king thing not loading from where I last saved, I have now decided to give it a break. A new start, a new character may be needed...

I've been playing Soul Calibur 2 the past couple of nights. It's a decent game. I'm not really into the beat 'em up games, but it is amusing to beat Edh. When we first started, she won the first 4 matches. I won the following 10 out of 12...whoops!  :o

Glad to hear that. I'd heard fairly ordinary reviews for that, so I haven't played it myself yet.

Hated last year's edition, so i'm put off playing the series ever again.

Currently I'm not really playing anything. I do have Battlefield: Bad Company now, but what with Fable 2 coming out tomorrow and all, I doubt I'll find any time to play that much.

Haven't been doing much gaming lately, but I did get to play a little. Finally tried out Battlefield: Bad Company, which is pretty damn intense. Seems like a really good game. I couldn't whack it though, because my head wasn't right, at the time. Shooting was off, etc. So I fired on Fable 2 again for a little play. Married an undead chick and bought one of the places I didn't already own, which meant I had over 2,500,000 in real estate wealth. This means you're the ruler of Albion and can be known as the King. Gotta love it.

Played Mirrors Edge last night, and found it to be quite an addictive game.

I wish it wasn't in First person view though, i'd like to see the freerunning action itself. ovther than that, the game is very cool.

Finally got onto Fifa '09 the other day. About a million times better than '08 and has some cool new features.

Force Unleashed wasn't bad either,  but finished it way too quickly. Lucky I didnt buy, or I'd be p**sed off.

I've been back to playing Football Manager lately. It generally satisfies my sports gaming fix.

Strangest thing just happened, though. Nearing the end of the game, I'm drawing 1-1, the ball is played forward and the oppositions player plays it back to his goalkeeper, but it goes past him and into the corner of his net. I laugh, thinking it's an own goal and it's won me the game in the final seconds. But the whistle went, players ran off the pitch and the game is still tied. I'm like 'what the f**k?!' at this stage. Even more annoyed, because I've been drawing a hell of a lot of games under similar, suspect circumstances. Anyway, I generate the match report to check out how it was recorded and it says the following: 'Jackobsson found Niemi with a low pass right'. Bullshit! Went right past him.

But it's just a game, eh?

Haha, is that FM08 Joe??

I had the same thing happen, with a def backpasing to the keeper, and it going straight past him.

I just figured that they had blown the whistle, so it had gone into the goal because the game was finished.

Could just be a game glitch.

I noticed you do tend to draw a lot as well.

I found a used copy of Dynasty Warriors 5 for the Xbox. I know I am not alone in my love for the franchise, despite the games having little in the way of variation throughout the incarnations. There is mindless fun in wiping out thousands of people in a battle and doing it for hours on end. Which is pretty much why my Xbox has gotten more use in the past couple weeks than it has in the past year.

Haven't played it yet, but if it's as good as it sounds, you'll be back to it. How did the files get corrupted, Nick?

All I've been playing really is a bit more of Civ IV. on the PC, as I mentioned before, and a bit of Battlefront 2. :) Looking forward to returning to my consoles, heh.
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?

I don't know. The last auto-save refused to load. Then slot 7 (most recent) also failed. Then slot also 6 failed. Slot 5 still works, but it's f**king ages back. There's so much gameplay that's been lost that I'm left completely disinterested in going back and doing it all over.

I do wonder if it's linked to the server issues EA has been having. Each time I've cranked up the game in the past 48 hours or so I've had an error message informing me they can't contact my EA profile on their server. Still, that should be off site data that has no bearing on files saved to my hard drive.

Like I said, I don't know the cause. But coupled with the postponement of yesterday's DLC (which I was super keen for), it made for a shitty day of gaming.

read that the downloadable content is only an hour of added gameplay. plus you have to pay 4 bucks for stuff that already should have been in the game in the first game. that kindof sucks

I still haven't played the ACII DLC. I got the DA:O DLC as well and knocked it off this morning. Only about half an hour of gameplay and it was pretty shithouse.

I finished ME2 this morning. Initial thoughts were, "holy shit!". The end sequence was just epic, much more so than the crummy climax to the first game. It felt more rewarding to have the characters you spend most of the game recruiting actually participate in the final battle, as opposed to picking your squad of two and leaving the rest to rot on the Normandy. I imported my ME1 Shepard and I'll once again import this Shepard to ME3 (and look forward to some of the new allies/enemies my choices earned me).

All in all the game is a vast improvement over its predecessor in every respect. Gone are the SO f**kING TEDIOUS Mako missions. In fact, gone is the Mako, period. No more landing on a planet and spending 20 minutes driving over rage-inducing terrain searching for ever-elusive mineral deposits or alien probes [snicker]. Gone, too, is the broken inventory system (raise your hand if you spent the final quarter of ME1 breaking down EVERY SINGLE PIECE of loot to make omni-gel because your inventory was full). Still there is the awesomely immersive roleplaying that's a staple of Bioware. Just a great game, particularly for those who have played the original (you'll get so much more out of it if you import a previous character - many NPC interactions are based directly on choices made in the first game).

In short, Mass Effect 2 is everything a sequel should be. It scrapped what didn't work the first time around and improved all that did. Go play it.

Finished ME2 yesterday (day before?). Excellent game. I'll talk about it some in the thread later, but for starters...

I finished ME2 this morning. Initial thoughts were, "holy shit!". The end sequence was just epic, much more so than the crummy climax to the first game.
Err, wrong. The ending for the first game was a better ending, all in all. While I'll agree that it was cool having different teams, thus all your members being involved, the actual ending was lacking in comparison with the first instalment.

I went with Jack as my buffer/shield-holder, while selecting Samara and Miranda as my two companions. Grunt led my crew back to the Normandy, Tali performed the tech work, and Garrus led the initial fire squad, I think. Miranda led a team, too. It was pretty cool. I was hoping that I'd get to play as the leader of each group, like on Dxun in Knights of the Old Republic 2, but oh well.

The 'big' decision was all the more crucial for humanity, as well.
Spoiler: show
Blowing up the base was a no-brainer, as anyone that comes into contact with Reaper tech loses their mind, etc. Disappointing.

Shame the Illusive Man didn't go properly nuts and have me killed.

Replaced by the ever more tedious scanner system. It was an improvement for the first couple of planets, but having to go over and over countless planets of what is effectively just a grind, is the worst thing about the game. Major drag. When I entered a new system, I would pick up my phone and call someone. Otherwise, I never would have made it through that shit.

I'm hungry for the next addition, all in all. I'll list some of the improvements I'd like to see later on.

Anyway, I'll be picking up (and playing) Dragon Age, next, which I missed when it first was released. Then, Heavy Rain.
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?
Post by: Alrin on March 26, 2010, 12:55:13 AM
Scanning was only as tedious as you wanted it to be. I finished the game with so much mineral left over I probably could've purchased every single upgrade twice over. It was certainly less tedious than driving over barren terrain for twenty minutes searching for a mineral deposit, and incomparably less tedious than trying to navigate a rocky, mountainous, trench-filled planet.

As for the ending, how it was lacking compared to the first is beyond me. It was basically the same fight on a larger scale. You had your long trek through the reaper vessel (ala ascending the Citadel tower). You had your mini-boss fight against the Harbinger (ala organic Saren). You had your final fight against the Reaper (ala Reaper Saren). The difference being that every aspect was bigger than its predecessor and your crew wasn't completely pointless. Further, as you yourself said, the decisions made had larger consequences than the more personal decisions of the first game.

Once again I assert that the entire game was an improvement. There were no backward steps as far as I'm concerned and I can only hope that trend continues into the final chapter.

You need 47k of Element Zero, 235k Iridium, 317k Platinum (deduct 50k if you don't want the med bay upgrade) and 195k Palladium to research everything. You're going to have to do some scanning if you want it all. I'm wondering how you managed to get twice over, if you indeed didn't expend the effort to scan much. :P
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?
Post by: Alrin on March 26, 2010, 02:39:37 AM
I did expend the effort. I never claimed otherwise. But I had so much left over that I needn't have gone to the lengths I went to early in the game. And by the final quarter I wouldn't bother scanning a planet unless it had rich status.
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?
Post by: Great One on March 26, 2010, 02:47:27 AM
Yeah, not saying you claimed anything. Just wondering how you didn't find the damn scanning exasperating. I, too, spent time scanning more than I needed (see: wasted time), but there's a couple hard to come by like Element Zero and Platinum. I never had enough Element Zero to upgrade my med-bay, for example; not that I needed to, nor desired it. Palladium and Iridium can be found on virtually every planet, though.
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?
Post by: Alrin on March 26, 2010, 03:11:16 AM
EZ was certainly the hardest to come across. There are two or three planets that are rich in EZ. I never thought to make note of which ones they were but they net you enough between the three of them to have plenty in reserve.

I'm not saying the scanning wasn't tedious. By the end of the game it really was. But it was nothing compared to the frustration of some of those Mako missions - seriously, I can recall a few planets in ME1 that had probes or minerals tucked away at the bottom of massive ravines that would take 10 or 15 minutes to climb out of (or until you got the shits and jumped directly back to the Normandy and got dropped back off at the starting point again).

Bacchus, I would strongly advise you to pick up The Orange Box (including Half-Life 2, HL Episodes 1 & 2 and Portal - as well as Team Fortress) for $20 as it is one of the best deals you will ever get in video game form.  Portal alone, though difficult at times, is extremely unique and quite the experience.

As for myself, I just finished Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune right before that).  Great games!  Oh, and I also beat Battlefield: Bad Company 2 recently and have been enjoying playing online/multiplayer.

I think I'll be taking on The Saboteur next...

Half Life is one of those games I've got to check out, but never have over the years. Not sure why.

I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins. Only kicking that off, really, few hours or so into it. Not really seeing the huge appeal in a game so horribly derivative of everything fantasy, but hey. I may eventually warm to it. Guess I'm getting a bit tired with Bioware.

If you can get a hold of The Orange Box (which, as I stated in my previous post, includes HL2, HL Ep1, HL Ep2, Team Fortress & Portal - all for $20 or less) I strongly suggest you do so.  Portal alone is an amazing and unique game once you get the hang of the more complicated levels.  There's nothing out there like it!

I just finished The Saboteur (PS3) and was pleased overall with the experience.  Aside from some control issues the game has a great atmosphere and some fun voice acting.  The sound is great overall, from the soundtrack to the sound FX.

Next I'll be mixing it up between re-playing GTA4 (which I passed on the 360) and Call of Duty: World at War (also passed on the 360) as well as getting into an action/RPG called Sacred 2: Fallen Angel and perhaps starting up Fallout 3.  Oh, and some Uncharted multiplayer seems to be calling my name as well. :-)

I've yet to play DA: Origins though it's on my 'wanted' list over at www.gametz.com.  It is a title I think I'll try at some point but with all of the games I currently own that I haven't jumped into, I think it can wait.

bought Black ops last week, I was worried about it because it was a Treyarch instalment and i've preferred Infinitywards work in the past. I gotta say Treyarch really lifted their game on this one, the story mode is fun and interesting(and short as usual), the online is great they have addressed a lot of issues found in MW2.

The best feature by far for me is the split screen  online multiplayer option.

Nabbed the Overlord DLC for Mass Effect 2 yesterday and finished it off in a single sitting. The ending really had me thinking about the decisions I've made with this character, dating all the way back to the beginning of ME1, and how I'd like to take a run at a different arc once ME3 is out. I currently play a shining paragon of virtue, a hero who: spared the Rachni queen, saved the Citadel council, reprogrammed the heretic Geth, denied Cerberus the Collector tech, and so on.

This latest DLC, particularly the final decision, has me wanting to go a different path. The   For instance, I'd sacrifice the Council and thus place humanity in charge of the galaxy. I'd cede control of Collector tech to Cerberus. I'd allow them to retain their VI work. I'd basically take the path of human ascension, making purely selfish and unethical choices solely to ensure humanity's - and Cerberus' - domination of the galaxy.

In fact, I might crank up ME1 right now and start on that path now.

I'm not that happy with their interpetation of some of the vampiric disciplines mind. Redemption had a set closer to the the orginal White wolf RPG which I was playing 15+ years ago. :)

Finally got tempted in to playing on the Xbox (with Kinetix) I'm so behind the times.

Rise of Nightmares
I hired it just to see what it was like. God awfull is all I can say, the game is so unwieldly and unresponsive. It would be ok for a joypad or PC game but not this.

Also Halo bought cheap for £1.99. Nice, looks good, plays well. I'm still bad with a joypad though.

yeah, it's a pretty great game. can walk around for hours without doing any story missions, so that's probably a good thing. try to avoid doing the story missions for as long as possible cause i don't want to get through the story too fast

Yeah. Good idea. I ripped through the story waaaay too fast. back to Skyrim, I guess.

Finally got around to Red Dead Redemption. Great game, but it gets way too repetitive. Lots of little frustrating things as well. Had a ot of potential t copy over some GTA aspects that it didn't utilise.

Anyway. Liked it, but could have loved it.

Have been off Skyrim for a while, so I may have to go back and try my hand at another scenario. It's either that or playing lots more Yahtzee.

We are the songs creators. We are the dreamers of desire.  Walking around by only sea-breakers. And seated by lonely streams; World-losers and world-forsakers. One whom the light celestial satellite gleams: We are the moving companies and shakers. Around the globe for ever, it seems.

Rented 'Red Dead Redemption' recently, but wasn't in the mood for a Rockstar game. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be like their usual fare. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I can appreciate certain aspects of it. Plus, it's always great to be going blisteringly fast on a horse and shooting f**kers left, right and center.

Decided to go with 'Fallout: New Vegas', which is more up my street.

Have had more time off than not, of late, so figured it was the perfect moment to finally give 'Mass Effect 3' a go.

Annoyingly, I belatedly realised that I didn't bring my old hard drive (I actually have two; brought the wrong one) with my past saves on it. So, my efforts thus far have been very tentative. Going with a more broken down, ruthless, and renegade Shepard. Just out of curiosity, before I start the game properly.

Been playing the GTA IV expansions, after finally finishing off Bellic's adventure. Playing the Lost and Damned and will play Ballad of Gay Tony next. Cool game, and I like how they handled the expansion, but none of them are as good as San Andreas. Looking forward to V.

Replayed Prototype as well, as I didn't end up buying 2. Wasn't much harder on Hard, whch shits me a bit.

Finished Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Cool game. Very Indiana Jones.

Finished MW3 really f**king quickly as well, although I'm told the campaign mode on those games is always pretty short. Not much for the Call of Duty shit myself. No FPS will ever be better than Goldeneye for me.

Probabaly actually buy Prototype 2 soon and Borderlands 1 + 2 after all the shit I keep hearing.

I just got a PS3 and am currently enjoying Dishonored and inFamous 2.

What amuses me about these games is that they are so far apart, but share a similar conceptual vein: mobility. In Dishonored, you can run in like a madman and kill everyone in sight, but you are also encouraged to find paths around enemies so you never have to interact with them. That usually means finding paths above your enemies and getting there through a combination of climbing and teleport. It is an interesting play style, one that I would love to utilize, but it is so f**king limited because your magic assassin ass is constrained to ledges and pipes and there is never one of these paths around when you need them. Then you have inFamous 2, which comes along and says that you are going to climb everything like a f**king spider and if you don't like it you can sit your ass down and fail most every mission. The mobility is great, allowing you to get anywhere you need... of course, none of that matters because your enemies see you from a mile away and lay down enough fire to turn you into swiss cheese by the time you finally get close enough to them. If Dishonored had that kind of mobility, it'd be great. Meanwhile, if perhaps I could actually get a drop on enemies in inFamous on occasion, that'd be awesome. Both are great games though.

I had the same problems with NWN back in the day, and never got around to actually playing it through. One of the few Forgotten realms franchies I haven't had a proper crack at. AC is awesome times, Myd. You'll love it. ACII is still the best of the lot, I reckon.

As for what I've been playing: Thief: Pretty awesomes. It really doesn't have the same level of mystique that the roiginal has, but is still a worthy challenge. In fact, it's bloody hard in sections. But I enjoyed it until I got sidetracked with....

The Stick of Truth:
Man. This game is so fun. It lives up to the hype for sure. It's like participating in a South Park Skyrim parody episode. Brilliant game, with enough to do to keep you entertained. Plenty of side-quests and a reasonablyt-sized map to explore.

I've just discovered "War Thunder"  :soldier:

It's awesome.

It's a online WW2 Dog Fight game. The great thing is that you can just jump in and out. Every dog fight or mission only lasts a 5 to 10 mins or so and every session you join, you have get randomly assigned to a team. No factions - just jump in a fight and the chances you rarely see the same names twice.

You start with bi-plane or basic single wing plane and the better you do the more points you get. Points get converted in to upgrades and research to improve your plane. And once you've completed a plane you get to use points to buy from the next level. Don't fret about getting shot down because very quickly you'll have "spare" planes so you can get back in the mission straight away and you start with 2 or 3 anyway.

There's several different countries to fly which you can swap between but bare in mind, points gained can only be spent in that tier. I've concentrated on British plane so far so you have the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Bleinheins, Lancasters etc. But there is USA, Russia, Germany, & Japan and Australia too.

[Edit: um Don't know where I got Oz from. It's not there]

There's are several game types but I've been playing in arcade mode most. But general the most common goals are to gain air supperiority or destroy ground troops.

I played through Final Fantasy III a little while back. I have some experience with other games in the franchise (Dissidia, Crisis Core, and FFXIV), but this was the first of the series proper that I ever played. I didn't enjoy turn based combat growing up, so I gave these games a pass. I enjoyed it through and the turn based content is perfect for someone who gets distracted with other stuff while grinding. It was fun. I would probably play more, but I'm not willing to drop $15 on additional remakes.

I've been getting more in to these online "freemium" Sim Combat games.

War thunder (by Gaijin Entertainment)  is still my favorite but I've also trying World of Tanks  (by a company called Wargaming.Net). It's the same late 1930 - mid 1950s decades but I'm not so keen on this one as it's more money hungry.

As these are a freemium models you can play for free but you can also purchase premium accounts and premium vehicles etc. War thunder is OK and you can still be competive without paying it's just a little slower to progress.

WoTs more complicated and detailed in the research, crew skills and equipment aspect of the game. By itself that's fine if you like that sort of thing but War Thunder is much more linear and simple. In WoT though, you need to spend actual money to buy and use the "premium ammo" for your tanks which I think is harsh.

However my newest venture is World of Warships. Again similar era just on the high seas!

Being an old git with the reactions of a sleepy sloth, WoWS great since it's a much slower, much more tactical game. The reasearch and tech element is far easier and most importantly boats can't fly, climb mountains or hide behind buildings.

Which is always a bonus if you're old and slow like me.  :P

War thunder has 3 different levels of "realism":

Arcade mode. Well you can do pretty much any thing in the plane with out anything bad happening unless you deliberately crash or get shot down. It's easier in 3rd person chase mode as you get a wider angle of view. You can't stall, you don't wory about engine oil over heating, can't rip your wings off. It's pretty much a free for all bun fight with unlimited ammo.

"Realistic battles" are more tricky but flight modeling is still ballanced some what. You have a lead targeting reticule but no radar. And there is no auto re-arm or weapons. and you need to start paying attention to air speed etc.

"Simulator" mode is a nightmare with hyper-realistic flight modeling on the planes.... I still haven't learned how to take off with out crashing yet everytime!!! You really need to pay attention to air speed, flaps, oil / water temp, EVERYTHING. There is no radar (ID-ing hostiles or firendlies is by eyes only!!!), no lead target, you're stuck in cockpit view so no 360 degree view and need to actually look at your instruments. This is HARDCORE flight mode.

Rhythm games are my jam right now. The obvious example is Guitar Hero Live, which is the best Guitar Hero/Rock Band game ever with the controls and the way that you have songs available to you with the Guitar Hero TV system. Might not have some of the great anthems that have already been in past games, but it has Biffy Clyro, which is just 10/10 for me. A less obvious example of a rhythm game is Crypt of the Necrodancer on Steam. It's a rogue-like dungeon crawler, with the twist being that every level has it's own song and every action happens on the beat, so you can't stop to take a breather, you always have to do something every beat, which can get really tough when there's tons of enemies around, all with their different movement patterns and effects and the song is really fast. It's just an incredible game, one of my favourites ever and my definite GOTY of last year.

They have Victory Over the Sun on the disc, and on GHTV they've had Sounds Like Balloons since the game came out and they just added Black Chandelier.

^ GH Live is a LOT of fun. I've been playing on PS4. The new controller is fantastic (though the adjustment to it is brutal) and the GHTV system is great! Only problem we've found is that if you want two players, only one can earn points for their profile as the second player must join the game as a guest. I suspect that has something to do with PSN not allowing two sign ins from the same device simultaneously

Acquired civilization V and have been playing every now and then. It's quite nice, although I do prefer the tiled board look instead of the fancy graphical one.

I haven't actually played these yet but I'm closely looking at the new X-Com game and there's a re-release of the old Atari (?) game "Master of Orion". (think Civilization but in space)

Master of Orion is currently out on Steam as early access, and you also get ported verisions of the original games as well.

Sounds good. Did you try beyond earth by chance?  It's civ in space from the civ makers.

I've played a few recently, though playing on Linux until recently caused more than a few problems.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition
-- I made a thread for this, so if you want my opinion you can take a look there. Though, in short, I'd recommend it... even if I am only the smallest fraction of the way through it.

Witcher 2
-- I managed to get this one running, but it had problems with my Steam controller and my attempt at playing the game with a keyboard was an embarrassing failure, so I quit halfway through the tutorial. I returned to it later, managed to get the controller working, and ended up enjoying it. It is really easy to dive in for hours and not realize it, but I am not sure if that is praise since I am pretty sure the lost time goes mostly toward excessive backtracking thanks to the lack of a fast travel system.

Despite having fun with the game, I really can't praise it much at all this early in the game. The combat system is... there? It feels a bit awkward on the controller and is impossible (for me) on the keyboard, but is neither an attraction or a problem. The maps remind me of a sprawling Fable or condensed Kingdoms of Amalur, which is mostly fine except for the lack of fast travel--running the same paths over and over again and getting attacked by the same monsters quickly crosses the line from fun to tedium.

I will give it points for having an interesting story and being genuinely hilarious at times. I am tempted, however, to take those points away for the random narration that sounds like it was out of a Ron Howard film.

Transistor
-- I played a good deal of this game on the PS4 when I still had Plus and I enjoyed it back then. I am enjoying it this time around, too. Great game. Great soundtrack.

Lately I've been playing a lot of The Division and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 on Xbox One, and Borderlands is one of the Games with Gold for the 360, and it's backwards compatible so I can play it on my One. I also just recently got a PS4 and picked up Dragon Quest Heroes for that and am really enjoying that as well. I'm debating on picking up Final Fantasy 14. I played the trial for it and it was fun, but I'm not sure if I want to get sucked into another MMO and have another monthly fee.

Hey hocho,

What did you think of the division and borderlands? Should I put them on my wishlist and if so why? ;)

I don't get Borderlands' popularity. It is quirky and I like that, but the respawning enemies made it such a grindfest that it got tedious after a short while. Perhaps the problem was that I was playing alone. I have a feeling that playing co-op would go a long way toward making it a heck of a lot more fun.

Morrowind - Got it installed and modded for a graphics overhaul and then I played it for about an hour and haven't gone back to it yet. I streamlined the beginning quests long ago, so I'm to the point that I'm going to have to start traveling around soon and maybe dipping into the main story. Age has made it ugly, but it is still a good game.

Skyrim - I picked this up at random because I enjoyed what time I spent in the original... you know, before getting bored and abandoning it. Equipment console commands have erased the tedium that a fresh start brings, so I am having a good bit of fun with the game. So much fun, in fact, that I have been completely ignoring Morrowind. Fun thing about playing this on the computer: I'm actually able to play in third person now. I don't know why, but when playing on the console I am limited to first person if I want to be able to hit anything. I'm playing the game strictly in third person at the moment and having a ball.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - I've played through the first two scenes so far. As the game starts, it warns you that it does not hold your hand and it sticks to that... not even letting you in on how to play the game really or holding you back if you straight up skip a puzzle. Not a bad game. Interesting story so far.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut - The boss fights may have been garbage, but I loved the original version of this when I played it on the PS3. I'm still loving it this time around, though my nostalgia glasses keep tricking me into thinking it looked a lot better than it actually does.

I have also played the original Deus Ex and Just Cause 2, but not enough for me to have much to say about them.

Dark Souls 3 just came out. I thought I was going to get to play it tonight with some friends, but not after all. I don't want to play solo before playing in a group, so I don't get to play until after Monday, but I'm keen as hell, I loved the first 2, and I own Bloodborne but haven't got stuck into it yet.

I just finished Human Revolution and wrote about that in another thread. Next, I think I will play some Shadowrun: Dragonfall. While I am not that fond of the gameplay, I am fond of the writing and how you develop your character.

There's a web game called slither.io (there's an app, and if you go to that website on your PC you can play it there) it's like multiplayer snake, where you eat pellets to grow bigger, and if your head runs into another snake's body, you die and turn into pellets that can be eaten, so it's balanced where even the smallest snake can get lucky and kill the biggest ones, and there's various tactics to force other snakes to have to die so you can eat them. It's pretty entertaining.

Elder Scrolls Online. The negative reviews from a few years ago got to me and I wasn't expecting much from the game, but it turns out that I am having a really good time playing it. I'll probably do a post about it soon.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - This is a linear western shooter with simplistic gameplay and a neat narrative gimmick that alters the story mid-mission based on people calling foul on the narrator's embellishments or piping up with a different version. The combat is about as straightforward and shallow as you can get: follow the path, choose a weapon, and shoot enemies in the face. It is a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, it only cost me a dollar.

Dark Souls - I've decided that I am too impatient for this sort of game. It wants you to pay attentions, learn, and react... and I want to rush forward and have fun. Unfortunately for me, dying over and over again is not fun. There is a sense of accomplishment when you do manage to beat a boss or get past a certain area that has been troubling you, but that is just not enough for me.

Far Cry 3 - The game looks great and is even fun after a while, but I had to first get around the awful story and the unnecessary crafting system that has been jammed in there for some reason. Whether that reason is to make it feel more like an RPG--if so, perhaps they should have linked skills with levels instead of missions completed--or to pad out the game's length, I don't know. Apparently, you can do some pretty crazy moves after a while, but I wouldn't know. I bought an assault rifle, upgraded it with a short scope and suppressor, and have been traveling the island ghosting outposts ever since.

Fallout 4 - I played a big chunk of this on PS4 and I was excited to get back into it on PC. Thing is, I've already played a big chunk of this and don't care to relive all the nitty gritty details a second time. I've found that the command console makes the game a much more enjoyable experience. Finally, I can feel free to wander around or get things done without weighing myself down every piece of trash that crosses my path. The downside to playing on PC is that it is a bit buggier than the console version, but who cares about little things like the game finally assigning an NPC duties hours after I placed the actual command and gave up?

Finished Dark Souls 3. Another great entry in the series, I need to go through Bloodborne at some point. I've been playing through co-op with a friend which has been really fun, but it makes things a bit easy in some ways.

I beat Fallout 4. The story, at least. There is still plenty of stuff left to do. It was both enjoyable and disappointing. The writing leaves much to be desired... especially options. Gorath called the game rigid when I was chatting with him about it and that is about the best word for it. The ending I chose allowed me to spin things in a direction that was more positive and hopeful, a chance at a bright future for the Commonwealth, but then the story just ended and nothing actually changed. Sure, I led the faction, but I couldn't actually do anything to lead or change the direction that the faction had taken up to that point. I was given fetch and kill quests, like I was a errand girl instead of the leader of the biggest, baddest, most technologically advanced faction around. Everything is the same. I can't reassure people that the choice I made was correct, that the faction had changed for the better. Instead, I am a just a monster who murdered a lot of people for the sake of the Commonwealth Boogeymen.

Keeping to the classics, that works, all great classics too.

I bought a puzzle game called Opus Magnum, it's by the same guy who did SpaceChem and Infinifactory if anyone ever played them. His games specialise in being kind of easy to do any solution, but insanely difficult to make a nice elegant solution which is where all the challenge lies. Very much enjoy all his games.

Pretty much all of my gaming is being done on the PS4 these days, even though most of my games are on PC. I just received several more PS4 games for Christmas, too, so that will keep things going for a while. Some of the ones that I have played lately, but have not come close to beating, are:

Horizon Zero Dawn - I've come to realize in recent years that open world games are no longer part of my wheelhouse, but Horizon Zero Dawn stands out as one that I actually enjoy playing. I'm somewhere close to thirty hours in and I enjoy the heck out of it, but I have been pacing myself so I doubt that I am as far in as I could be. Good game. I look forward to maybe finishing it one day.

Romancing SaGa 2 - The latest SNES-era Squenix JRPG to get a port to mobile/consoles/PC. I'm not familiar with the series since I avoided JRPGs like a plague for well over a decade (Mystic Quest was a poor choice of introduction to the genre), but I'm having fun with it.

Persona 5 - I put fifty hours into this game when it was released and haven't come close to finishing it. Just picked it up again recently because it was time to do so. Love it.

Blue Reflection - Kind of like Persona 5, except with magic girls. I was given this for Christmas and playing it was fun, but reminded me that I needed to actually finish Persona 5. I'll get back to it after.

Diablo 3 - I played this one back on the PS3, but switched over to the PS4 before I ever finished it. I picked it up cheap recently because several of my friends are also playing it. Decent game, I guess, but it doesn't hold a candle to Diablo 2.

I'm playing the first star ocean on my raspberry pi and I'm playing FfXIV on PS4 right now. I'm enjoying both but I feel combat is a bit slow in FfXIV.
Title: Re: What games have you played recently?

That's not just a feeling. The global cooldown in FFXIV is a bit longer than other MMORPGs, which makes the combat a little slower. You will eventually receive "off global cooldown" skills though and you will weave those between the skills that are on global cooldown, which means you will be better able to take advantage of and actually use the extra time.

I'm still playing World of Warships. It's about the only game I've played seriously in 3 years...... I might need specialist help thinking about it. :p

Lots of new content has been delivered of he past few years, it a great tactical, non-twitch reliant game unlike most FPS like PUBG Overwatch, etc. Good for old buggers like me. :D

I had a brief foray in to Subnautica (which I need to complete, thinking about it). That's a great game but I ran in to some pretty game breaking bugs especially if you play on the hard core  One Life only mode.

What happened to your Raspberry Pi, Aur? They are pretty simple machines, so a fix might be easy.

Anywho, I picked up the Destiny 2 season pass when it was on sale the other day, so I am back to playing that a bit. My problem with the game is the progression, which is very slow if you don't raid. I'm trying to get to max out my equipment, but I have only a handful of activities per week that allow me to inch toward that goal. It is almost pointless to play after finishing them.

I also started playing World of Warcraft again. I have a couple of WoW addict friends who were looking to get back to it and they managed to talk me into it.
