Google Hall of Worlds and it is the first selection. I googled Raymond E. Feist Forum and managed to find reference on the fourth page in the description of one of the links, where Pat linked to an interview we had up. Not so easy to find unless you already know about us. Similarly "Honest Johns" doesn't come up with much thanks to so many other sites using it. However, if you tack on Feist to the end of it, you get the first selection "hallofworlds.net".

I stumbled across this site while crydee.com was defunct as it was listed on the page. It took a while to even get that far. While I am sure that having our site accessible from google or any other search function would help increase our numbers in some manner, I don't think it will help as much as most seem to think. At least not initially. Feist threw his hat into the ring with Crydee and it is the official site. A person new to the fanship will almost always head to an official site over some fansite. Although why anyone would want to join and stay a part of that site is beyond me.

I hate to say it just on the off-chance that I will offend anybody who may enjoy a membership at that site, but it is in fact one of the sites I had a problem with, it is, IMO, difficult to navigate, difficult to infiltrate as a new member and all I seemed to get was a rather 'elitist' attitude from the established members....yes I enjoy Feist, in fact he was until recently my favourite author (he now shares the top spot) but I do not know every detail about him and don't expect to be belittled for that by people who do.

In comparison I find the site clumsy but as you say it is the 'official' site so I would imagine will thus gain the largest traffic ( but beware they also delete your membership if you don't post often enough) - on the whole as I said previously HJ's is much more welcoming and easier to use...but people need to find it!!!

Oh and the popularity of social networking sites doesn't help - there are several Feist groups on facebook and thats only one of many!!

Perhaps a fan page on facebook with a link to HJ's would help some?

I know why I am less active these days than I used to be: I still check in every now and again, but filling a Mod spot in three pretty fora which all currently struggle to keep up with their traditional activity levels (i.e. meaning you as a Mod have to encourage much more debate than usual) usually means that there's little else online time left when you're a Final Year student - and there we go.

I wished I could spend more time on the Hall, and am willing to make an effort in that respect, but I can't guarantee much, as obviously the "other three" have to stay on top of my "online priorities" list.

Hello All,

Ive read the first 3 pages of this thread and skimmed through the remaining and I must admit it makes me sad to read the posts in here. I must admit the Hall does have a different feel to it now, then when I first joined all those many years ago. I have some great memories of this place when users such as The Wolf, Duke Scoob, Darkon, Cenedra, ALS and others use to post regularly. It was good times. And now to come back after my 3 year absence and find the Hall has fallen is sad news. It seems to be that lots of people want to help, but just dont have the time to do so.

I am willing to help in any aspect that I can. I do have time to work on this site and gather information about Feist's works, or to fill a Moderator spot as I once did. I only work at Blockbuster and that leaves me with quite a few hours during the day to do whatever I want, so I have the time and am willing to help bring this board back into the Light of day. I love this site and would hate to see it continue to decline.  I remember when I first found this site and how excited I was there was actually a Feist site out there that had all the info I wanted. It was a good place.

So point being if the powers that be on this site would like some help, I definetly have the time and energy currently to do something.

Yeah...so...things are pretty darn bad. Should the ones that remain jump ship and move on, or what? This place is about as dead as dead gets. Very depressing.

Maybe there could be a reunion? Like, pick a day and make it Honest Johns Day or something. And send out emails/facebook messages/texts/instant messages promoting it in the months leading up to it. Nothing pushy, just letting everyone know there'll be a day when everyone's gonna come online at some point and they can be a part of it if they're interested. Obviously people would be in the chat room, but there could also be a thread in Just Conversation called Honest Johns Day or something, where people're encouraged to leave a post saying what they're up to these days and where people can chat/reminisce. I guess the idea is that having such a reunion, if successful, would lead to a concentrated amount of people in a single thread/chat room, over a small amount of time, and that might remind some people why they were originally members and what they've been missing. Other than that, it would just be fun! What d'you guys think? It's coming up to the holiday season, also, meaning some people might have more time on their hands (others, admittedly, would have less haha).

Also, I think there should be a facebook group for sure. Is there one that I'm not aware of? If not, and people're interested, I'm happy to make one.

I like the idea of a reunion, just one day of posting and chat. Im sure if the mods sent out emails and the rest of us sent messages out to those we still have contact with we could work something out.

That fault lies with Syrion and Shifty and their insecurities about Google's security. Not a good system, no? But that should've been corrected by now, and we should have been available when Google searches are done...

I didn't realise that the forum wasn't listed on Google. Only the front page of the HoW is. That is a massive roadblock for gaining members. It's important for the contents of the threads to show up on Google. Somebody would have to specifically search for the "Hall of Worlds" to find us. We lose all the hits that could come from people searching the names of books, characters, places, objects. Others could even stumble across us searching for terms unrelated to Feist and still decide to join, either because they had already read some of his works but were unaware of the existence of this forum, or became interested in Feist because of the forum, or were fans of other fantasy books and wanted to talk about them in the General Fantasy forum because they simply liked the atmosphere here....

You get the picture. Having reservations about making this forum freely searchable on Google is ridiculous. Assuming somebody manages to search out the front page and follows the link to the forum, they can read everything on it. Everything here is freely readable, even by non-members (and if people are stupid enough to put sensitive info on an open forum they deserve trouble anyway). I really don't see what the issue is. I'd love for the admins to explain it to me.

Well, I ran a search on a few of Feist's book titles and this site never seemed to appear in the first page or two of results.  But as soon as I added in "hall of the worlds" to any search, Google did suddenly find the forum and link to pages within it so looks like the forum IS listed on Google now-a-days but for whatever reason doesn't seem to return high on the list.  Possibly some other commonly associated words need to be put in the page titles or even area names to help (midkemia, riftwar, Pug, Raymond E Feist, etc).

But google also relies on people clicking the links to get here to determine how high to list a result.  I remember a webcomic called "dreamless" never showed up when you typed the title in but gradually it worked it's way up by popularity and now it's the first result.  If everyone around here wants to help, keep coming here via google and it'll help bump up the site in search results (although its difficult to beat big book sellers and review sites).

I took a quick look at the forum on the official crydee.com site and it's much more of a ghost town than here.  Wouldn't surprise me if things pick up as the latest book becomes more widely available across the globe but I'm in a few other forums around the place and I've noticed all them go quiet as well so maybe it's just a time of year *shrug*.

I miss the old Invision Boards. Never understood why we switched to Simple Machines. Even the free version of Invision would be better than this, and I'm sure someone would've donated a few dollars to get the place free of ads.
