Good for what ales ya......
« on: November 16, 2008, 07:08:32 AM »

Got the idea from smalll issues, courtesy of Joe, and thought we might discuss our vices, eg: alcohol....., coffee....., crack...... you know, whatever gets you through the day.

Just finished another heavy night out on the Gas, and am currently hung-the-f*&^-over.

Smashed the Johnny Red (as usual) and a fair amount of assorted intoxicators throughout the night. I reek!!!!

I get through the week-days taking a lot of various hot drinks, be it coffee, tea, hot chocolate, whatever. Mm. I'd love some, right now. *takes break between posting to put the kettle on* Mm. I'm thinking coffee and cake....damnit.

During the weekends, though, I drink dangerous amounts of alcohol. Usually in beer form. Kronenbourg bottles are ace. I love them. Hard to get in a pint, so I usually go with a Northern Irish beer called Harp. The result of this, after many years of drinking, means that it is very expensive to get drunk on night outs, and when I do, I'll be absolutely dying the following day.

Never really did any other drugs, excluding some dabbling, to help me with life. I'm fine as I am. Curious, of course, but that's just stupidity.

Quite enjoy a harp myself Joe. Quite a nice brew.

Enjoyed the classic taste of Cascade Pale Ale last night (always gotta get a couple of pints into me).

It may suck in Tassie, but we do make some world-class beer!!!

I actually met a Yank recently who had the ordasity to tell me that "Er-mary-kens make the best beyeer braaa!".
I told him "Americans wouldn't drink a decent beer unless it dressed up in a suit and invaded an oil-rich country."
Its not very funny but I was p**sed and I thought it was hilarious.

now that I'm past the binge drinking stage of my life (and other things thankfully), I really do enjoy a good beer (as opposed to pounding them to get drunk like I used to), and am known at work and elsewhere as a 'beer snob' because of my habit of refusing to drink crap beer (like Budweiser, Lite, etc.). there are quite a few breweries like Abbitta in Louisiana, and Belgium Colorado, making some very decent amber ales. many times I like a really hoppy IPA if I can find one like Dogfishhead 60 minute IPA. Sam Adams actually makes some excellent seasonal ales. As far as beers from outside the US, recently tried Bass for the first time and f****ing hated it. It was awful. Carlsberg is OK, Guinness is of course very good but not in the states unless you can find it on draft. Harp is OK. Young's Double Chocolate Stout is very good if I feel like a desert.

Anyway, I'm constantly trying new beers, sometimes with better results than others, and any time I travel I try whatever the locals drink (tending towards the darks or reds).

MMmmmmm, if it wasn't 9:00 in the morning here I'd have one now. :depressed:

I like experimenting with my drinks, but it's very difficult to find much variation where I live. Apart from your mainstream beers, there's only a handful of foreign ones to chose from and you'd usually pay twice as much for one of them. Now, I wouldn't mind this so much, but I don't work, so y'know, you need to watch your pockets. And even when I was working, I was loath to pay it. I'm much sooner pay £13/£14 for 18 bottles of Kronenbourg, anytime. It's the same thing with Whiskey, as well. I mean, I come from Ireland, surely I'd be able to get more than a few that aren't Jack Daniels, Jim Beam or one of those other popular ones. Er, nope. Quite annoying.

I was actually in Colorado over the summer, and heard they had a good selection of home breweries, which spiked my interest. However, being a few months off 21, at the time, I couldn't legally get my hands on the stuff. So, yeah, apart from one time, that was it for me. Quite annoying when you've been drinking for 7 years. But maybe that's just an Irish thing? Oh well, there's always next time.

Clean as a bean! Clean as a bean!

</War of the Flowers reference>

I think I've tasted alcohol twice in my life- once when I was about four, and thought someone had left fancy glasses of grape juice out (which is more or less accurate, it just doesn't taste the same); and once when I was sixteen and took a sip of a can of beer my dad had left out. It was.. sort of.. okay.... :elf_gloop:

I am, however, pretty much addicted to coffee. Mmmmm...... and I wish I could be picky, but there are no damn espresso shops on campus, so I'm stuck with mass-brewed stuff. I still drink it... just have to sweeten it enough and make sure to use whole milk instead of 2%.
and tea is good, but I haven't had any in a while, because my mug is dirty enough to make anything but coffee (which it's dirty with) taste disgusting. The fact is pretty gross in and of itself, I know. :P

Gee, Ed, you gotta get on the gas mate!!!!

Actually, once you start hitting the gas, it's hard to stop, so I congratulate you on your vow of sobriety.

Got onto the 1-litre Steins on the weekend. Now THAT'S drinking. Gotta love october. No wonder I was so smashed.

2% is the Yank version of Aus's 99% fat free isn't it. Low fat nonsense. it should be called "white-dyed water".

Meh, it's no vow of sobriety. I'm just not as interested as you guys are! I have the suspicion I might end up drinking while I'm in Ireland on New Years, though... hopefully not too much.. >.<

and 2% would be 98% fat free -- we do make 1% (99% fat free) and Skim (which is completely fat free). They're all.. okay. I use 2 or 1% for tea, and drink skim, and use whole for coffee. Of course, 2% steamed works fine for espresso drinks... mmmm I want a 12 oz mocha latte with 2% and whipped cream on top, drizzled with chocolate syrup... ohhh... *looks happy at the thought*

Had the best hangover cure this weekend - NOT DRINKING, haha, no.

Stayed at a mates house and he dragged me outta bed to go to a seesion at Zone 3.

I pretty much told him to Go *&%^ himself, but he insisted that he could give me something to wake me up.

He gave me what he calls "the blaster" -

It was:

1 tsp of tabasco mixed with 1 tsp of ginger. a half shot of vodka, topped off with fanta and passiona. he then dumped 2 sachets of wasabi in it and stirred until the wasabi was absorbed into the mix.

Skull one of these, and you'll snap to - straight up!!

it's the coffee that keeps me going. seriously drink too much. when i don't have coffee in the morning my hands start to tremble, and that probably is not a good sign... best hangover cure is coffee and some fat food. need plenty of those calories

sounds like a hectic cure you got there kik, though i'd bet a pineapple that it would work if you left all the other stuff out and just had the vodka.

I used to find jumping in my freezing cold pool would do the trick

*MIGHT* end up drinking.
In Ireland.
On New Year?

BWHAHAHAHAHAH!

It would be a blooming miricle if you didn't end up fully tanked with the rest of those partying maniacs across the Irish Sea at ANY TIME OF YEAR let alone on New Years!  :jester:

It's a dead certainty I'm afraid, I'll say a pray for your liver for you, Ed. :D

Now what gets me through an average day?

Hot strong English Tea and plenty of it.
I save fresh coffee for the weekends usually

Say hello to the Egyptians for me Ave!!!!!

With no access to the ingredients of my mates hangover cure (above), I was forced into buying those over-the-counter hangover pills this morning.

They don't work. At all. Not in the slightest. it could be the severity of my hangover, but I seriously doubt they'd help you recover from a coca-cola, let alone a three day drinking binge.

Got on the Thai beers this weekend - Cartons of Chang were on special so me and a mate bought a carton each, drank said cartons, then proceeded to head out where we ingested more intoxicating beverages. About 6 Jager bombs, 10 Johnny red and cokes, 4 vodka cranberrys, and a few Pale Ales later, I had amazingly managed to stay on my feet and had NOT thrown up.

But, to my dismay, I was too messy to pick up the extreme hotty I had managed to hook up that evening, and was very disappointed in my efforts.

I have taken a four-day vow of sobriety.

EDIT: I have now broken the vow, having been only one day in.

For shame Kiks, for shame!!!!

Jager Bombs are pretty damn tasty, but they do hardly anything for me. Hard to beat some whiskey shots. ;)

The salt's the worst part - the lemon in the eye isn't as bad as you'd think.

As for the ladies Joe, I don't reckon anyone drunk enough to think that the stuntman is a good idea, probably wasn't gonna be jagging up much chop anyway.
