How exactly is one meant to pimp your purchases? Assumedly, it's based off the horrific tv show, "Pimp my ride", in which case all the things you post here must be s***, and improvable.

OOOOoooo, blue ogre snot!

Yes, I call kneaded erasers ogre snot. *wonders what D uses them for, as he is not into drawing as far as I've heard*
They're really good for picking out the light lines in a dark-shaded work. And blending.

I'm certain it wouldn't be for my fascination for drawing which I have had since I was a small kid. And it's definitely not something I'd ever write down in my HoW profile 4 years ago. Or on LJ for that matter. Nah, that'd be absolute nonsense.

Seriously.

Right, so Seven Kingdoms mailorder said they intended to close, so I placed a large order and it just arrived the other day. My record/cd collect is thus enhanced by a further 14 additions. Oh, and I bouthg 2 cds at HMV as well...and now I'm skinned.

SK (£3 since they were saling):
Arkona - Revival
Barastir - Battlehymns of Hate
Dragobrath - Scripture of the Woods
Falchion - Legacy of Heathens
Orlog - Zeitenwende
Sturmfront - Behind the Gate of Darkness
Taunusheim - Nebelkämpfe
Nordafrost - North Arise
Nordicwinter - Threnody
Teufelswerk & Narrentanz - Minnemetal
Tvangeste - Firestorm
Ulvhedin - Pagan Manifest
Unleashed - Hell's Unleashed
Zorn - Todesschwadron

HMV:
Arch Enemy - Rise of the Tyrant (£13.99)
Nightwish - Dark Passion Play (£9.95)

And I'm glad I did this. I discovered a new band with Dragobrath ... nice Russian folk metal in "viking" style. Falchion aren't too bad either. I've been listening to the Arkona one day in day out, I like a good few songs on the Teufelswerk & Narrentazn. The Barastir is classic, and the others aren't regrettable either. The new Arch Enemy is a little Death Metally for my taste, but fine. And the new Nightwish is way better than I expected.

Vodka is not a grocery. I know there are some of you that actually get all kinds of different alcohol, some of it quite expensive, so I really don't mind. However, unless your sandwich was one of those $100 creations from New York... :|

Got me some earrings, so I don't have to try to remember to keep the holes open, then forget and have to repierce my ears repeatedly. With blunt hook earrings. Quite painful. Although it does lead to the observation of just how much pain makes one's eyes dilate..... I mean, since you have to be looking in the mirror and all.....
anyway:

See? (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/Picture429.jpg)...... Sparkly! (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/Picture430.jpg)

Sounds painful. I like the right ear decoration there (with the rings) a lot compared to the 4 stubs in the left ear.

That camera is going to have a short-lived life for sure.

If the iPhone was available in 16gig version I might consider it, 8gig is far to small. Also I think its too big for a night out, I would prefer a much smaller phone for this.
Title: I just bought...
Post by: Bacchus on November 29, 2007, 01:12:38 PM
8 gig is too smalll? that's hours and hours of music. you need weeks to listen to all that
Title: I just bought...
Post by: Edhelur on November 29, 2007, 06:01:49 PM
May I remind you, baz, that iPods now come up to 160 GB..... 8 GB does indeed seem small in comparison. Just wait a year or two, they'll have iPhones up a few jacks on the memory scale.

I didn't buy a new keyboard. No, I got the even older one, that is really quite stunning in it's functionality. Is that a word?

um. I don't think I have bought anything in quite a while. (an apple, cup of tea, and cup of coffee are excluded, I believe)
Title: I just bought...
Post by: Bacchus on November 30, 2007, 02:32:37 PM
yeah, but you can't listen to all the songs on there before you die! 8 gig is what, 800 songs?... it's still a good toy, but it does not have too little memory

Actually I figure they're made for watching movies... or at least storing them... why you'd want to watch a movie on a 2.5" screen is beyond me.

I'd like a gym membership, because I know it'd get used (as long as the gym happened to be on a bus route that goes near my school). See, I have a punch card, but I also have a weird complex. It says something like, "You only have fifteen punches left... you better not use them up". Which means I don't use it.

I do exercise a bit at home in the mornings (you know, a basic routine of 30 sit ups, 30 push ups, and 30 leg raises on sides and front).... but I certainly wouldn't mind having a gym membership too.

Although, soap is good too. I guess. O.o
Title: I just bought...
Post by: romana on December 04, 2007, 10:55:10 PM
  yeah, soap (???) is good...

Yes, the 'save it for a rainy day' trap.... good if it rains a lot..... not so great if it's sunny all the time

good on you for doing something, better than nothing. I tried the home motivation thing, but I just need someone to be yelling at me to keep moving, lol. That, and the extra incentive in not embarrassing myself by walking out of a class.

You could be like my mum, and just keep numbers in her (hard copy)address book.... it takes her 5 minutes to find her glasses in her handbag, another couple of minutes to find someones number in the address book, then longer to type in the numbers.......don't even ask how long it takes her to type or read a text message - and she never knows who she received the msg from anyway because the senders name is not programmed into her phone

I'm buying more art supplies than usual of late. Mostly canvases and acrylic paints, and I still need another canvas and more paints. Of course, I've had these tubes of paint for three years, and now I'm just on a bit of an acrylic binge and am finally emptying them. White was the first to die.

Curse creativity,

see, I've got this really good new idea.... Okay, so it's Bakker-inspired (like the last one, ).... the scene (around page 180, I think) where Cnaiur's father is sitting around a fire with the other men, and the Anasurimbor is standing behind him and to his left/ our right, and he's looking up, and the nearest-to-the-right man is looking directly at Cnaiur (through whose eyes we are seeing) and the rest are looking up at the Dunyain, and and and the shading is going to be awesome... I mean... orange firelight.....

Bought one of the Dark Tower books, hardcover, on sale at Walmart. My parents bought me one of them about two years ago, but it was Wolves of the Calla, which is up there in the series. Figure I'd just pick them up when I saw them, eventually I'll be able to actually start the series.

I went today and bought $81.02 worth of clothes at the Ross Dress for Less. I mean, there's no where else (in this town) where you can get a pair of dress pants for $9.99, although most of the jeans do cost about $12.99 +/- $3.

So yes, I came home with two pairs of jeans, a pair of slightly dressy pants, and *counts on fingers* four or five summery shirts. (the grass has sprung, the flowers has ris, I wonders where the birdies is?)
Actually, I went out for a walk this afternoon-evening (about 5:15-6:15 or so) in a tanktop/vest and didn't get very chilly at all!
'Course, it's supposed to snow day after tomorrow.

My little sister is begging me for money for a pedicure. Now, see, I'm the kind of girl who has never and likely will never get a pedicure, but my little sis is the normal/girly-girl-ish one in our family. Should I give her the $20 she says she'll pay back? (I do owe her a birthday present, but I was going to paint or draw something for her, maybe a portrait-- which would cost about $5 total, for the canvas, which I already have)

Other than that... I went shopping yesterday and the day before, got some cute sandals, a swimsuit (bikini top and boy's trunks) and some more summer clothes (last summer's clothes are a bit small on me now), a bed set (sheets and pillowcases)...

yup! summer is here. Well, mostly. Everything's blooming.... except it's supposed to snow (again?) next Thursday. -____- Lame.

My SubPress signed/limited edition (#223) of Red Seas Under Red Skies arrived the other day. It's very pretty. Cost me a pretty penny, too.
Still waiting on my copy of Lies... (and hoping against hope that I get a matched copy - something I'm rather doubtful of, since I bought them off ebay).
Also waiting on my SubPress edition of Gardens of the Moon, but it's yet to go to the printers so I'll just continue to wait.
Finally, I'm chasing up a slipcased copy of the PS edition of Night of Knives. I really want #25 to build a matched set with my Return..., but that's looking unlikely.

how expensive is "not that expensive"? One of my friends spent $371 (USD) on textbooks yesterday... and she still has two more to get. Yeck.

as for me, I recently went and bought a ton of Asian junk food-- mochi cakes (which I liken to Japanese donuts), nori maki arare (rice crackers wrapped in seaweed), and wasabi peas, although I haven't brought myself to actually eat the wasabi peas yet..... Hm, I think I want to go buy more mochi today..... yumsies.

What? I was in the process of drinking myself into oblivion.

Oh, but I did buy a couple of things in the airport. An Erikson book and a bottle of water. The bottle of water being the more important of the two, of course.

Haha. Mine are mostly just photocopied compilations of all the texts we study, so they're not that expensive. I probably would've spent around $150 all up but I'm not sure 'cause I bought them all over a couple of weeks.

Wasabi peas ay? They're not too bad and I don't really like spicy food. The first hit is a bit, "Ahhh!" but then it goes away quickly.

a little baby one, bazzy? or big grown up one?

I just bought (in two trips to a store a good twenty minutes away (+traffic)) bedding-- that is, pillows, pillowcases, a comforter-- and a pack of notecards and a folder and some tape-- poster and "magic" (you wonder what "magic" tape does, eh?)-- and a desk lamp, no lightbulb, duh, and an ethernet cable which it turns out I don't really need. At least not in my room. Ha.

Oh, and a couple days ago I bought twelve 8x12 inch prints of pictures and drawings for mini-posters... for $56. And some clothes and underclothes and socks (yes, socks are an entirely different category of 'clothing').

AAaaaand a few days before that I bought a $1100 ticket from Denver to Belfast over Christmas. .... and that was my own money, too!  :depressed:

I've been browsing hotpatterns.com. (It's a sewing site, really, nothing of particular interest to anyone not interested in creating some clothes). Now I really want to buy a couple of patterns -- their Hello, Sailor! pants (http://www.hotpatternsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HP&Product_Code=riv_HP1016&Category_Code=riv) and their Cosmopolitan dresses (http://www.hotpatternsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HP&Product_Code=dv_cd)..... but I don't have a sewing machine here, and my dad probably wouldn't be happy with me asking him to ship it here, and I have no idea where fabric stores in Santa Cruz are (although that could be remedied fairly easily)..... and I don't want to sew a whole dress by hand, my god no.

*twitch*

Edit: *starts almost crying in frustration when she looks up the fabric stores nearby, realizes she could get there by bus..... and still doesn't have a sewing machine*

Edit II: *starts looking for actual clothes like what she's looking for, knowing it's folly to buy clothes online, but... frustrated....*

I just bought a 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra. It's been modified and is now making 344 HP to the rear wheels, and is an absolute blast to drive....it's paid for, no payments. It was either this car, or a BMW 540I Sportwagon...BMW's are super-expensive to repair here in the states, not that I can't repair one, but even the tools to fix one are expensive. ...so I went with the Cobra, which is far cheaper to maintain, and I already have specialized tools for this car.

I also bought World of Warcraft with 'burning legion' for my two oldest sons...they have been working really hard with school stuff here of late, and this is a reward for their toils. Too bad I will have to monitor their computer time now, to make sure the hard work continues to roll in.

"Water Sleeps" on ebay for $1... which would be great except that's book 3 of the Glittering Stone series, and I got heavily outbid on book 1 and have now found its difficult to find for anything close to a reasonable price for books 1 or 2 (or the SFBC omnibus). So now I have kind of a useless book sitting on my shelf until I get that all sorted. :irritated:

Also got "48 Laws of Power" which is kind of high on the creepiness factor, but interesting nonetheless. Also got a self help book that I won't name because everyone would laugh and point (no, my junk's fine thank you, its on another topic). And finally got the "Zombie Survival Guide" for my middle son. He loves it, he's 11 so the concept of zombies and all that are kind of new to him.

I decided to go on a Richard K. Morgan binge.

I bought:
Altered Carbon
Broken Angels
Market Forces
Thirteen

Probably should have gotten Woken Furies instead of Altered Carbon since I have already read Altered Carbon, but I loved that book and I didn't want it to be the last one in the collection to buy.

A couple of Fullblast and Living With Lions CD's. I must have been drunk at the time (I only discovered I'd made the purchase by checking my bank statement). Buying physical copies of CD's in this day and age is the equivalent of throwing money away. Doubly so for The Fullblast, who split up years ago (the Living With Lions purchase I can somewhat understand, as they're an up and coming band who could use the cash).

I also recently bought a Bruins jersey.

I also recently bought a Bruins jersey.

Alright Nik, I have been meaning to ask you this for some time now.
Why the Boston Bruins?
As a Boston native, rabid hockey and Bruins fan, I am curious as to why and how this came about.
Title: Re: I just bought...

Why the Boston Bruins?
It seems a relatively straightforward question, however the answer is anything but.

I'm a latecomer to the sport. We don't have ice down under, so I was never really familiar with hockey until I moved up to Queensland and fell in with a crowd of inline player (some of whom are the best in the country, having represented the nation in the sport). I was immediately awed by the sheer pace of the game and swiftly came to love it.

Turning my eye to the NHL, I obviously lacked a home team to support.

I briefly considered the Habs (due to a woman), but soon was turned off by the sheer arrogance/obnoxiousness of Canadiens fans in general. My emerging dislike of the Habs led me to the Bruins, their traditional rivals. While my opinion of the Habs wasn't the deciding factor, it was probably the first step along the path.

Next up was probably the references from punk rock alumni in the Dropkick Murphys, a personal favourite band and staunch supporters of all things Boston (Bruins included). Their dedication to the team spoke volumes.

I also sought a team that wasn't top of the league. I didn't want to be some bandwagon fan cheering for the latest cup winners.

In the end it was probably the Boston fans themselves that won me over. I don't think there are any more passionate fans in the game - any game - than Boston fans. It's pretty awesome the way that their die-hard fans support them through the highs and lows (sure, every true fan of every team in every sport feels the same, but Boston fans seem to go above and beyond). The fans struck me as very similar to my beloved Penrith fans, and that, I think, was the clincher. The B's really felt like the NHL equivalent of the Panthers, and that was probably what sold me.

So yeah.. Go B's, Go!

Finally, I'm chasing up a slipcased copy of the PS edition of Night of Knives. I really want #25 to build a matched set with my Return..., but that's looking unlikely.
My slipcased edition of Night of Knives arrived yesterday. I got #100. With it came the signed/limited editions of The Healthy Dead (#291) and The Lees of Laughter's End (#202). They're all very, very sexy.

My Bruins jersey also arrived the day before last. It's also sexy.

It has also been suggested that "laksa" may also be derived from the Chinese word "la sha" (辣沙; pronounced "latsa" in Cantonese), meaning "spicy sand" due to the ground dried prawns which make the gravy taste extremely sandy.

While the curry type doesn't sound bad (the Assam is fish-based, which doesn't sound appealing to me as a seafood-hater), this part is definitely unappealing. No the prawn part, but the fact that it is supposed to taste sandy, or rather extremely sandy, which is worse. Is it all like that? Living in Florida means at some point you will get sand in your mouth and it is not a texture that is in the slightest appealing.
Title: Re: I just bought...
Post by: Kikori on December 01, 2008, 03:09:20 AM
Can't recall any type of Laksa actually ever tasting "sandy" James.

It's a kind of salty dish, especially in the case of the Prawn laksa, which I guess has a kind of "beach feel" (being seafood and all) but I would never describe the taste as sandy.  Nor does it have a sandy texture.

Then again, there are about 20 different types of Laksa (the one I would have most would be the Penang), so there may be one out there with sand in the recipe. Note that the sandy description comes from something trasnlated form chinese - perhaps something was lost in translation.

I just bought two books.

Hal Duncan's Escape from Hell! was one of them, despite the fact that I abhorred what I could bother to read of his first novel Vellum. I also tend to mock one of his short stories, if only by displaying excerpts from it (which is more than enough). However, the prologue was posted online (found here (http://www.bookspotcentral.com/2008/11/exclusive-escape-from-hell-by-hal-duncan-prologue/)) and I really enjoyed it, enough so for me to shill out the dough, a bit too much actually, for the rather short novella.

I also preordered Charlie Huston's The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, which isn't fantasy in the slightest. I fell in love with his other standalone novel, The Shotgun Rule, and have been looking forward to reading this one since I heard of it. Set to be released January 13, 2009 though, so I still have a few weeks to go. I still need to get into his series, but that can wait.

I just bought a subscription to Electric Velocipede, a science fiction zine that publishes short fiction and the like. Since I ordered this and Night Shade Books is having a promotion, I get two of their books for free. I got one that I have been meaning to get for a while: The Sword-Edged Blonde by Alex Bledsoe. The other is one that I chose from the catalog, of course most of the books I really want are being published after the promotion ended, but I think and hope that I'll be happy with the book I chose: The Chains That You Refuse by Elizabeth Bear.

Seriously, Bazzy, how many shirts do you have by now? You seem to be buying them at least one a week ... O.o that must accumulate rather rapidly, no?

As for me, I got my textbooks today. "Brewing Justice" has to be the most creative title of the lot (it's for an anthropology course, about fair-trade coffee, I think)... and "Principles of General Chemistry" is the least. I think. "Justice" is in close competition with "Single Transcendentals"... which actually sounds more like a phony religious text than a Calculus textbook....

It was around 60F here today. Nice and hot.

Over the last three days or so (including today), I have bought:
~One yard each of "raisin silky", "navy silky", some sparkly purple, and shiny silky white fabric.
~Groceries, not that I should count them here.
~Dark purple thread. For some reason, I always seem to be buying purple thread, and yet we never have any!
~Two boxes of tealight candles (in "Enchanting Lavender" and "[good adjective] Honeysuckle") and a pillar candle (Honeysuckle)
~29 inch circular 4mm knitting needles, and two skeins of yarn (white and purple, 100% acrylic) to go with 'em.
~headphones, because the vacuum ate mine.
~a couple of shirts, a few bras, some shower gel stuff, shampoo, etc....

As you can see, I really need to stay away from the Craft and Fabric store. The other stuff I can avoid fairly easily, and my parents reimburse me for groceries, but...... it's eating my wallet!

Ordered a new phone last night, a Motorola Renew. I hope it works well... it was one of the cheaper 'upgrade' phones on the list.

Today, I went shopping. I started out with a slight headache and a bit of a stuffed nose, thought I'd be fine. By the time I got home (about an hour and three quarters later) I was quite snuffly, very headachy, slightly feverish, and dizzy-confused. I blame a couple of my purchases on that last bit.

I got:
--A  pair of black exercisey pants, which I quite like. :D (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/165119.jpg)
~Some "sailor" jeans (two rows of buttons, one per front-of-hip) with a cool pattern around the bottom hem. Cool... /crazy. *nods* (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/165416.jpg)
--A slightly-past-knee-length black skirt, which has a  knot-belt that you can't see in that pic very well (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/170443.jpg)
~A high waist cotton skirt which is yellow fade red, with SEQUINS... ftw. (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/170752.jpg)
--A lime green jacket. Also ftw. (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/171244.jpg)
~nice black suede high heel clog things... (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/185523.jpg)
and....
--platform flip flops / summer sandals / thongs (*sniggers at the last name for them*) (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/glorfindel789/185642.jpg)
(Also, I know that my bedroom looks a TERRIBLE mess in that picture... but it's not as bad as it was a while ago. Plus, that's really just the messy part... with my art all piled behind it, and the shoe boxes, and some clothes and..... yea.

I also got a really weird/awful floor length gown dress thing, which looked and felt like a very strange swimsuit, and a black cotton skirt that I tried on once I got home and went, "What the hell was I thinking??" I'll be returning those...
The rest I rather like, though.

Bought lots of shares in a US bank last week, they were so low I thought it was worth a punt. At one point last week I had doubled my money, but they have come down a bit from that price, though I am still 1/3 up.

Bought some red and white fabric-- stretchy knit of polyester and (5%) spandex -- and red and white thread. Made a dress. It's quite nice from the waist up. The skirt is a bit iffy though.... needs some more work... : /

I personally make a point of never ever looking at abstract money-- stocks and currency trading and the like. 1) It doesn't make any sense to me. 2) Imaginary money just doesn't seem like a good idea. And it really is imaginary money, you know, because the share prices are pretty much arbitrary and only based on demand, as far as i can tell.  The companies just do what they do, and the stock holders determine arbitrary prices. 3) Too many numbers. O___O

FELL #1-9 (IMAGE)
ATMOSPHERICS
AETHERIC MECHANICS
and the four APPARAT specials: Angel Stomp Future, Frank Ironwine, Simon Specter, Quit City

All written by Warren Ellis, of course.

I also ordered Memoirs of a Master Forger by William Heaney from the UK.

From two friend's discussion of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", I've heard it's pretty good, if you haven't read the original Jane Austen. Apparently some of the old-fashioned humour disappeared, along with a few plot lines, but overall it's decent.

(Saying this, I don't intend to read it myself).

I'm gonna buy a lighter summer blanket today! I've got a winter duvet, which is fabulous if it's under 5 C / 40 F or so, but it's been hitting 40 C / 90-ish F for the last few days (and not much cooler at night).....

I am buying more books all the time. Some people are hooked on drugs, some on booze, some on cigarettes. I am addicted to books. Of course, I am the sort of person that dreams of having his own personal library. I really don't own that many books, despite buying all the time. I think the count is upwards of 150, which is rather slim pickings compared to people from some of the boards I visit, whose collections range in the thousands.

and what the hell do you do with that many books? It's pretty difficult to read more than five at a time, I'd say, let alone thousands.........

also, books, very much like cd's and dvd's, tell something about their owner. for starters, having a collection says the owner is somewhat litterate. unless they're colouring books. still they're part of your identity... the first thing everyone does when going into a house he's never been in, is going through the book, cd and dvd collection
Title: Re: I just bought...
Post by: Edhelur on July 28, 2009, 03:58:19 AM
... really? I probably would be nervous if someone came in and started inspecting my bookshelves... Maybe if there was a shelf in the sitting room, I'd not mind someone glancing through, but my shelves are in my bed-room. O.o

But, I do agree on the "part of your identity" piece of it: I have CDs from years ago that I really never listen to anymore... but wouldn't wish to part with. Similarly, I have books that have more memory value than any other kind of value, and that I probably won't re-read again, but still keep -- two large-ish shelves full. But I regularly sort out books I don't want anymore and sell them back to the second-hand shop I frequent to buy them..... just letting them stack up everywhere seems a waste.

no, not those, but... what about -- *goes to fetch the book box she's about to take back* Fitzgerald's translation of the Aeneid sucks -- it's prose for one thing, and unclear, and not even at all literal. Two copies of The Remains of the Day (by Kazuo Ishiguro) that I got for school? how about Betrayal of Trust: The Downfall of Global Health Care Systems, which was current in the mid-1990s?..... they might be useful to someone else, and they really aren't useful to me.

besides, it's really blasphemy to throw away or recycle a book, isn't it? That's what I've been trying to keep my mum from doing -- some of that box were rescued from the trashcan. >.<

A burgundy cami with lace trim. A dark blue-green-ish, knee-length, v-neck dress. Knee high socks, three pack (navy blue, beige-ish, and multi-blue/beige stripe). -- Target
Purple a-line knit sweater, black lounge pants -- Ross

She got some jeans, a pair of flat shoes, and a faux leather jacket with angled zipper....

And we wandered around Macy's and made fun of their manikins. Swear to god, one of them was flashing this gang sign with her hand. Cept it wasn't much of a 'flash', considering she was, well, plastic....

It's more a matter of what I haven't bought lately. Been saving money best I can -- bringing lunches, though really, if my friend insists on going to Zanmai for bento boxes every other day, she can't blame me for stealing a gyoza.. or two... or four.... :D

Horizontal or vertical?  Thin or thick stripes?  Crew neck, button down or polo-type?

horizontal stripes makes me look fat, and i've got enough of that as it us, so i went with vertical... always button down shirts. people who go out in t-shirts have no fashion sence

I bet the purple looks good though.  I like a good button down, but don't mind a thick polo either.  My last, a few weeks ago, was a yellow and dark blue, horizontally striped, polo.  Good looking/feeling shirt.  First shirt I've bought myself in 2 1/2 years. lol

Bought 12 Wide Mouth 1 Quart Canning Jars, plus 750 mL of brandy -- or rather, my mum did -- and I got 20 pounds of peaches for $18 dollars.
Now have four quarts and two pints of canned brandied peaches.
Thinking of giving a pint to the people who sold me the peaches in hopes of getting another 20# for maybe $10-15... :D ... and the cycle goes on.

don't put brandy in the apples, silly. With the apples you throw in cinnamon -- usually half a stick put in to the jar first works nicely.

Kinda continuing on a conversation taking place in the covers thread....

I bought the traycased edition (ie. the f**king expensive one) because it was the only jacketed hardcover edition they were doing this time 'round. I have jhc editions of both HD and Lees sitting on the shelf and sought to build a matched set (I'm still chasing a hardcover copy of PS's Blood Follows, but I ain't paying the $250-300 most eBayers are asking). I also have the collected edition featuring cover art by Erikson himself (scored for free as a result of the shoddy proofing in RotCG). The pride of my PS collection, however, are the two slipcased Esslemont titles (both NoK and RotCG). Hideously expensive but extremely beautiful editions.

The ultimate pride and joy of my collections though are my SubPress copies of Lynch's Gentleman Bastard sequence. They're gorgeous and just look so nice together. They dearer to me than even my SubPress GotM (and all three shit on my SubPress Steel Remains).

I am a remarkably cheap bastard, which leaves me to look though SP's catalogue with longing and a sigh. Still, I do plan on buying a few things when they are released. I have my eye on McCammon's Mister Slaughter (art from Chong). Purple and Black is sold out there, but Amazon still has a few copies, so I will have to order that soon. Quite honestly, I would love to have this (http://www.subterraneanpress.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Perez-Reverte01&Category_Code=PRE&Product_Count=27), but there is no way in hell.

Two audio books.

The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave, which I speak of some here (http://dazedrambling.wordpress.com/2009/09/08/random-bookery-also-random-audiobookery/), though that was before I purchased it. The other is Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis, which I have read a couple times in book form and love to bits.

Went to Borders this afternoon to look for a new book, was thinking of getting the Glen Cooke - Black Company omnibus but they did not have it so ended up getting 'The Steel Remains' by Richard Morgan and 'The Undercover Economist' by Tim Harford as it was buy 1 get 1 half price. Not sure which I will start first, might read the first chapter of both and see which is the most interesting.
I wanted to buy the new Hobb book, but I think I will wait for the paperback as its £20 for the hardback.

Picked up the PS3 version, which I'd planned on doing (for the online play), but still went out thinking I'd get the Xbox version. (un)Fortunately the decision was made up for me, as all the Xbox games had been sold. Heh.

I went to TACtile, which bills itself as a "community center focussed around textile arts and crafts", for their fall "Bizarre Bazaar". They sold me a biiiig ol' bag for $2 and said: "Have fun!" and I went and combed through the remnants of fabrics and quite a few patterns (many of which were very old -- I'm talking boys' bellbottoms here), and picked up a lot of fun stuff. I was gonna get a Sony, but the dude was like, "This one's better and it's three hundred dollars cheaper", so I went with the HP Pavilion dm3 Notebook PC, in case that means anything to anyone. Also bought a Blue 16GB iPod 'cause my last one died suddenly and unexpectedly, and irritatingly.

Nice purchases, Squire.

I don't always post in here, but when I do, it's usually about what books I've bought. So, first picks of the new year look like such:

- Shadow & Claw, the first half of the Book of the New Sun, by Gene Wolfe
- Old Man's War, by John Scalzi
- Sailing to Sarantium, by Guy Gavriel Kay
- the Summer Tree, by Guy Gavriel Kay
- I, Jedi, by Michael A. Stackpole
- Mythago Wood, by Robert Holdstock
- Celtika, book one of the Merlin Codex, by Robert Holdstock
- Where Time Winds Blow, by Robert Holdstock
- the Bone Forest, by Robert Holdstock
- the Hollowing, by Robert Holdstock
- Earthwind, by Robert Holdstock
- Eye Among the Blind, by Robert Holdstock

And I think that's it. A lot of Holdstock, as you see - he was going cheap.

Ave was wise and limited herself to just one single book: CS Friedman's 'the Madness Season' :)

Me too. just some jockeys in plain white. Problem was, I got them form the wrong section, so what i thought was "Large" was actually "XXXL". They are almost like diapers. Needless to say, I returned them and got the right size. That was funny - Returning underwear. The returns lady at the place I got them from looked at me like a freak.

I always wonder why the stores segregate sizes like that. at the place I went to, they have feminine clothes under "Juniors", "Misses", "Ladies"/"Maternity", and "Women's World". The first four are near each other, but "Women's World" clothes, which are mostly godawful dresses in sizes 2X and up, are off way on the side. It's like they think fat is contagious or something... kind of stupid and sad.

I went crazy at my local dvd store yesterday. Picked Swingers and Requiem for a Dream up off the shelf, and placed orders for Spaced: The Complete Series, Inglorious Basterds (2 Disc edition), Lords of Dogtown, Dark City (Director's Cut), Good Will Hunting, The Basketball Diaries, I <3 Huckabees, Brick, Black Snake Moan (for my Ricci fix), and The Lookout. I'll probably pick up (500) Days of Summer next week (for my Zooey fix), and I'm looking forward to The Brothers Bloom next month.

I really need to invest in some f**king storage space for all these things, too (seriously, I currently have almost 200 dvd's just sitting in piles on my lounge room floor...)

I have to get (500) Days of Summer, I love Zooey and I definitely enjoy Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Should probably pick up Brick, too, so I can stop renting it from Netflix.

I am broke, so I haven't bought anything. Angry Robot Books did send me Servant of the Underworld by Aliette de Bodard though.

Went on a positively ridiculous spending spree today. Or at least my version of one. Bought parking time ($2.50), masking fluid for painting ($9), a pair of slippers ($36), and a copy of Rothfuss' Name of the Wind to send to my far-away friend ($8.50).
Plus a small grocery trip ($25), but my parents refund me for food bought for the family household, so that's not really a problem. It does p**s me off that I bought a pre-packed beef brisket, 3 pounds at $4/pound, and had to trim off nearly a pound of worthless fat. Cheap cheaters -- gah.

Except that insurance might cost a bit more.
Like, $67.30 more, if you're sending something to Cambodia.

Haha, I bought Songs of the Dying Earth a few months back, too. It is less a matter of it being a special book (though that is much loved, believe me), but a matter of the majority of these stories being unavailable anywhere else in print.

I bought Ciaphas Cane: Hero of the Imperium; or, as it commonly seen: CIAPHAS CANE: HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!!

It is an omnibus set in the Warhammer 40k setting, which is a universe that I have yet to delve into in any way whatsoever. The books sound hilarious though and they are supposedly quite good, so I figured I would give them a go. First person narrative with footnotes that is supposed to look at the setting through a more comedic lens.

Sweet album. I was expecting a massive 99-track multi-volume box set as the release though, and am kinda bummed to discover the tracks will be spread out over eight albums. Oh well.

The most recognisable tracks to me are the punk covers (ie. Linoleum - which I've seen them play live - and Skyscraper) and, obviously, the B.O.T.A.R. cover. The Paul Simon track is a highlight (I really dig Paul Simon, so Paul Simon by Streetlight is awesome), but the best track is easily the Postal Service cover. Amazing.

The Iron and Wine cover is pretty good. And I love Garden State.

Hell, the Streetlight version is pure Streetlight after 30 seconds (meaning it pretty much sounds like any other Streetlight song), but that 30 second intro blows any version away.

EDIT: Oh, and the Confide version is pure shite. Just sayin'.

Hope you enjoy it, Vega. One of the better new authors to see release last year--one of the best, I would say. Lamentation was a solid book with a few issues, especially in terms of characterization, but if you finish it and want to go on, you should know that its sequel, Canticle improves upon those issues substantially.

One of the other eight volumes should be released very soon (it was originally stated that the first two volumes would be released simultaneously). It won't be the second Streetlight volume, nor will it be one of the B.O.T.A.R. volumes. I'm leaning toward a volume by The Stitch Up, but they haven't been confirmed as one of the four contributors yet, so it's currently anyone's guess. Still, I'm 99.9% positive it won't be the Bandits and 100% positive it won't be Streetlight.

What is it with the tech disrepair?
My camera needs a new LED screen, as it doesn't have an eye-peeper (yes, a very technical term), and the old one got cracked somehow. I don't have the funds to spare, though, so unless I can get the store where I bought it to cough up a duplicate receipt for the warranty (as I don't seem to have kept the original), it won't get fixed. Dammit.

The funds thing is also a result of having to buy a new passport, as I managed to lose the first (wanna kick myself, yes) and that cost $100 (approximately 22% of my total net worth... *sigh*).

I need to buy new underclothes. Dammit -- bra shopping is one of the worse kinds of shopping there is. I don't mind gift shopping, don't mind shirt shopping, or jackets. I /like/ book shopping, obviously, and art supply stores would suck my wallet completely dry if I didn't resist contemplating entrance. Jeans are annoying, not because I cry in the changing room (used to do that, and occasionally hear sniffles from other ladies in there), but because brand by brand I can wear anything from a twelve to a sixteen. gah.

but bra shopping (and its sister, swimsuit shopping!) is evil. evil!

So, I've recently been kind of suffering both a desire to be semi-fashionable (I blame the return to campus, with all these girls in beautiful skirts and embellished tops...), a desire to not buy immorally made clothes/goods, a low budget, and a ridiculously restrictive set of requirements (must pack small, must not stain, must not be too short to bike in, must work with many other garments).... and I end up at the conclusion that I ought to buy a pair of work boots.
From cute skirt to... work boots.
Dammit!

Dust of Dreams by Steven Erikson

I also picked up a few DVD's:
Pontypool

Human Traffic
Go
Parks and Rec season one
Sin City Recut
Cloverfield
Kick-Ass

And a few games:
Rugby League Live (probably the worst game I've ever played)

The Mall of Cthulhu by Seamus Cooper
Mogworld by Yahtzee Crowshaw
Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky

I received:
Slights by Kaaron Miller (Put it down, too. I f**king despised the main character and that is not something that happens often. She was worse than The Dying Earth's Cugel.)

All of those first buys, with the exception of Harkaway, are books I've already read. Harkaway was bought in part on the strength of your review, and also because it kept popping up in an "also recommended" section on some site I was browsing when looking for books to buy (it apparently was similar to shit I'd already bought).
Title: Re: I just bought...
Post by: James on September 24, 2010, 04:54:40 AM
I don't think the Harkaway can be easily compared to anything... it has so many elements from all across the mediums, but they are just samples and not significant enough to say "yeah, this is really like X." It is like an insane hodgepodge.

An old mom'n'pop drug-and-stuff-for-uni-kids store is closing, so I picked up a bunch of stuff off their super-cheap shelves yesterday. Lotion, an eyeshadow set (what, it was like $3!), twenty simple snap closures for sewing, a cheese grater, and batteries.
And work/hiking boots, which are quite comfortable, and make me feel very very practical.
Also, ordered online, a sewing pattern for a corset set (http://www.lafnmoon.com/victunder.htm).

Now I just need to find 'TIME'. Is that ever listed on eBay?

oh, with the boots mentioned above; I also bought socks.
Problem.
See, I thought I didn't have any socks, and I kinda did need boot socks to try on the shoes with, so I bought them first before even trying to find boots. A six pack of ankle socks and a three pack of boot socks, right? And I was like, "I don't have enough at home anyway"
You see where this is going, right?

I can't close my socks-and-underwear drawer anymore. hmph.

Got my hands on a new phone. The Sony Ericsson "Elm".... More of an upgrade to be honest.

My last phone died a death and I'm not a fan of touch screen phones. Still for it's size it's got a good mix of features including built in Wifi and GPS and as my last was also a SE phone is pretty much the same in it's menues. No relearning stuff there

Just re-ordered the limited ed. of Deadhouse Gates by Subpress after some issues with the first order. Added Before They Are Hanged to the order, as well, to match my copy of The Blade Itself.

I must say, I'm pretty underwhelmed with their copy of The Blade Itself. Oh, the binding and printing is beautiful, as always. But Alex Preuss's art leaves me pretty cold. I like the vast majority of his work, just not what he's done for The First law. I expect I'll sell off the matched set for profit once it's built.

I just bought a new extra tall and double-wide bookcase from Ikea for the bedroom. I had to put it together (which I hate, not handy at all) but its awesome. Now all my "to read" books actually have a place now without being stacked two deep, and I was able to take some previously read books from other bookshelves that were stacked two deep. And I've even got some extra room. its great.  :soldier:

As far as I've heard, it's like a horrifying combination of Target-style cheapest-of-the-cheap design styles (except slightly more expensive, which means it's 'contemporary' and 'fancy'), combined with overmarketing and forced store layouts.

This being, of course, from someone who's never been to one and got her introduction from that first dialogue from Fight Club.

Title: Re: I just bought...
Post by: Edhelur on February 06, 2011, 06:42:57 AM
Agreed. I generally dislike shops/shopping. There are a couple I've liked -- but those are generally either thrift or book (or both) stores, with very haphazard stuff-might-fall-on-you layouts.

Teeshirt, socks, panties, and waterbottle. I know my old bottle will show up, now that I have a new one -- it's the most effective way of finding something (to get another).

Not bad.

I don't have much use for a tablet, but I figure I will get an e-book reader at some point over the next year or so. There's no chance I am giving up on regular books, but you can't beat the deals available in e-book form only. There is also the matter of some interesting indie publishers that are taking the e-book route instead of traditional publishing. VanderMeer's Cheeky Frawg is one of these and while I don't have much interest in what they have available now (except maybe VanderMeer's Secret Lives), they will be moving into bringing the work of other authors into electronic format--like Michael Cisco's books and some others that are hard to get a hold of.

While I rooted and flashed the device last night without a hitch, I also discovered a prior flash update that basically doubled the data partition. I was way too beat last night to even attempt it (especially since it came as a bit of a blow after having already worked so hard at rooting/flashing). Managed it this morning with no troubles at all. So now my device is fully optimised. Pretty stoked.

Went without a TV in our apartment since we moved in, back in November...this ends tomorrow (assuming it's delivered). We bought a nice new one, with a new Xbox swiftly following. I haven't gamed much over the last couple of years, so it'll be fun to give some established games a long-due whip.

And Ave bought a new PC. I figured we could get by without one, but I'm not going to complain if I can play SW: Old Republic sooner. :P

Congrats, sounds like the new place is shaping up. Does a new PC mean she will actually come by and say hi once in a while? Or will she continue to be invisible?  :dunce:

I just bought a ticket to see Rush when they come here this November, should be great.

Well, she graduates this week, more or less, so she'll be around much more frequently. :)

And indeed, once we move into a new apartment/house/whatever, we will really get the place together. Haven't really warmed to this place, as they're pretty strict...even about putting a hook in to say hang a plant. *eye-roll*

Haven't bought anything though. Unless you consider a shitton of 'buy one get one free' hormone/antibiotic/other crap-free chicken to be a worthwhile purchase. The kitchen in this place is kind of filling out, finally.

Funnily enough, I was talking about tats with Ave's Dad, and he's from the background where they were seen as nothing more than kind of thing you'd see on a person from a pretty bleak family, occupation, etc. Certainly not something most people would pursue.

And women who get those tattoos remind me of that.

Still will get a new tat over the next few months, though.

I recently pre-ordered the new Erikson novella from PS Publishing.

Back when they announced Crack'd Pot Trail I had to email Pete and Nicky to find out which edition came in a dustjacket (as there was a traycased and hardcover edition). I was informed only the traycased edition was dustjacketed and thus I was forced to pay the extra for that edition (because I'm OCD and wanted it to match the rest of my PS novellas). However it later turned out that the non-traycase edition was also dustjacketed, it simply wasn't housed in a traycase. f**kers.

Why the long story? Because this time around they again have two separate versions, a hardcover and a slipcased edition. But here's the kicker -- PS Publishing's website in no way indicated that one or another edition would or would not be dustjacketed (it may have since been updated, I did order the first day it was announced) so I just grabbed the non-slipcased edition, as my first two PS novellas have no slipcase (and we've already covered my OCD). BUT THEN I happen to be browsing the SubPress site and discover that the edition I ordered does not, in fact, come dustjacketed. SubPress explicitly inform me that of the two separate editions, only the slipcased copy comes with a dustjacket, the other -- my copy -- comes with pictorial boards. WHY THE f**k did PS not state as much on their own website? Why did I have to learn this information on an external (a competitors, no less) website AFTER I'd already placed my order?! Weak.

B-day is coming up. Thinking of getting one of these things: new tattoo, blu-ray player, new bicycle.

The latter is by far the priciest, especially in Boulder, but think I can make it work.

Any recommendations which I should favour? Do any of you lads have a blu-ray player, for example?

i'll get into Blu-Ray when it really starts replacing the DVD. At this moment you don't even know if its worth investing in or if something else is going to come along and replace it. like, say, 3d-tv. i've got my mind set on a bicycle as well for my upcoming birthday.

anyway, i bought a kitchen knife the other day. had a nice set of knives, but the new one is more expensive than my previous set. think it is worth investing in some good kitchen supplies when you enjoy cooking as much as i do. it works like a charm

I have a blu-ray, although its a cheap one. The only issue I have with it is that sometimes it has an extremely low tolerance for scratches on the disk. Other than that it looks great. Not sure its a must-have though.

I've never understood tattoos. I will always think they are a bad idea, on anyone... ever. But what do i know, personal choice and all that.

So I vote bike.

a lot of airline tickets for trips across the big pond (Denver to Belfast) and the very small pond (Belfast to Glasgow) to visit family and watch a couple of Celtic FC games. Whoo hoo!

I'm very happy because EasyJet -- who reportedly have customer service that you'd expect from a budget airline -- actually defied my pessimistic expectations and refunded a change fee! (I accidentally booked a flight at 8:55 PM instead of 8:** AM; they charged $170 for the change (arrghhhgahhh....); upon a call, when I spoke to a nice man with a very strange accent (French/Scottish?? Maybe just Scottish with some odd vowels and a bit more fricative than usual?), they gave me $165 back (not refunding the fare difference, but I can live with that). My mistake in the first place, but they made it all better :D).

Also, I felt like such an alcoholic the other day after buying a litre of rum, nearly two litres of vodka, and a 750ml bottle of very very cheap wine (chocolate flavor -- what can I say, I was curious. And it was $4).

Contraception is free here. I really have just no excuse. To be fair though I used to have a highflying career so they wouldn't have seemed just as expensive then but my word they do now.

new phones!

I got an LG G2 -- it's shiny! (I mean literally, I named the device 'Shiny v3', seeing as my iPods were v1 and v2). No, but I finally understand the fuss about smartphones. I was stupid and went low end before, even on the shittiest network in town, and it couldn't load maps or even maintain calls. And this one is... shiny. :D

GO got a Nexus 5 -- Google. I think he likes it. But the voice recognition needs to be primed to his accent. Had me giggling earlier, what it thought he was saying. :P

And we all pitched in and got my little sis an iPhone 5 for her 19th birthday. She's been carrying a bubblegum pink Motorola Razr since ... 2007, I think. maybe '08. It was overdue. She actually went around a kissed cheeks repeatedly and hugged all of us. A teenager! Kissed her mother! O.O

Yeah my droid (Razr M) doesn't even recognize my own murican accent half the time when I talkxt, but its a year old now.

Nothing I love more than yelling out rude words while my wife is trying to talkxt people though. Good times.

Anyway, getting a new phone is awesome. Jealous.

I asked it to find the title of the song with the lyrics "when I'm older and I'm wiser" ... and it searched for "when I'm 10 and I'm wiser".... and somehow ended up with the song as the top result anyway. *scratches head*

Sorry it took me so long to reply! Been playing with Bora everyday and feeding mosquitoes into the night :D

He is a Kelpie x Staffy (not sure if English or American Staffy). Apparently, they were trying to breed Staffies but the male jumped over to the neighbors and went for the Kelpie. Our puppy was an accident XD

I think Kelpies have the "eyebrows" bred into them. They're supposed to be very active too, bred to herd sheep.

I think his eyes will be going brown soon, they're a bit grayish at the moment. He's growing pretty fast too! He's a full 8 weeks old at the moment. Can't wait to take him out for walks when he gets all his vaccinations!!!

Since you asked, D - I made coffee; and bacon and eggs.

I have today bought the intro pack for the latest iteration of the HITMAN franchise of games. They are doing this latest one as a release of several missions that you can buy separately, or just buy the whole lot at once a la season pass style. But basically it means I bought the tutorial, the first real mission, online play, mission design and sharing, all for $15 US. For a triple A studio and franchise.

More on this in the "playing now" thread, when I've played more of it.

Green Man Gaming had a sale, so I ended up buying a few games from them:

The first, which is what drew me into the sale in the first place, is The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I have had my eye on it since I first heard of it prior to its 2014 release and almost picked it up during the last big Steam sale. Now that I am running an OS it runs on, I made sure to snap it up.

Browsing a bit, I ended up in the Bethesda sale, where I picked up my second and third games. I've been wanting to have a go at Morrowind again for the longest time, but the $20 price tag has put me off of it. At $4.49, I couldn't make up an excuse to not buy it.

I also bought Skyrim Legendary, which I hadn't planned on. As much as I go on about Morrowind being the best there is in that series, I still enjoyed what I played of it. Perhaps mods and DLC will breathe a little life into the game for me. At the very least, I can look forward to picking off people with stealth and a bow.

While every Elder Scrolls game dumbs it down compared to the previous title, Skyrim was still a great steaming pile of fun.

What *I* just bought, was this:

I was very interested when Heavy Rain first came out, but did not have the means to play it, so remastered and on a console I *do* own? Deal me in, buddy! And Beyond Two Souls, while I know very little about other than Ellen Page (a selling point in her own right) it's still Quantic Dream so I'm keen as to play it also.

Edit: that picture is larger than I expected, oh well, suck my apathy.

I just bought a slow cooker because I am always on the look out for new, interesting meals to make and ways to save myself a bit of time. Right now, I get off work, take something out of the freezer, and eventually get around to eating at eight or nine in the evening. That's if I feel like cooking at all. The later it gets the less I want to eat, let alone cook.

Taking something out to thaw before I go to bed, throwing it in the crock pot before I go to work, and having something waiting when I get home in the afternoon seems like a decent solution to the problem. I don't have to put a lot of effort into it, I eat early, and there's a good chance that I might have something to take to work for lunch the next day.

How exactly does a slow cooker work, besides the obvious?
Title: Re: I just bought...
Post by: James on April 20, 2016, 12:26:33 AM
Quote
Raw food and a liquid (such as stock, water, or wine) are placed in the slow cooker. Some recipes call for pre-heated liquid. The cooker lid is put on and the cooker is switched on. Some cookers automatically switch from cooking to warming (maintaining the temperature at 71–74 °C (160–165 °F) after a fixed time or after the internal temperature of the food, as determined by a probe, reaches a specified value.

The heating element heats the contents to a steady temperature in the 79–93 °C (174–199 °F) range. The contents are enclosed by the crock and the lid, and attain an essentially constant temperature. The vapor that is produced at this temperature condenses on the bottom of the lid and returns as liquid. Some water-soluble vitamins are leached into the liquid.[4]

The liquid transfers heat from the pot walls to its contents, and also distributes flavours. A lid is essential to prevent warm vapour from escaping, taking heat with it and cooling the contents.

Basic cookers, which have only high, medium, low, or keep warm settings, have to be manually turned on and off. The most advanced cookers have computerised timing devices that allow the cooker to be programmed to perform multiple operations (e.g., two hours high, followed by two hours low, followed by warm) and to delay the start of cooking.

Because food stays warm for a long time after switching off, slow cookers can be used to cook food to be taken to be eaten elsewhere without reheating. Some cookers have ways of sealing the lid to prevent the contents from spilling during transport.

Ah there we go. That's what I remember about it. Some people consider it therefore to be more healthy.

I bought Elder Scrolls Online from a digital sale for $18.99. I've been interested in it for a while now, but unwilling to throw money at an online game that might very well suck. The game hasn't managed to rid itself of the stink of those early negative reviews that pretty much ruined its reputation and it doesn't offer a free trial (they really, really need to), so for all I knew it could have been the rotten pile of crap that everyone said it was. But my interest in the game and a coworker's praise (she doesn't like anything fantasy and has never played MMORPGs before, but loves it)  and the sale made me finally give in.

And I am glad I did. It is really good and not just in terms of other MMORPGs either.

Oh, and a few shirts because I am the king of fashion.

After Descending Dragon, Rising Tiger: A History of Vietnam I bought The Penguin History of Modern Vietnam by Christopher Goscha. So far so good. Reading at the same time David Eddings Belgariad (book 1), so the timing isn't too great, but I saw Goscha's book and didn't want to leave the bookshop without it...

Also bought and finished the last Discworld novel The Shepherd's Crown (should make a thread on that).

A one-way international plane ticket. (Bought mostly using miles, so it cost ~$100, whooooo).

And a big tattoo. Holy *cusses like Locke Lamora*. You can clicky for a close up. I'm so happy.

Mostly I'm selling/donating/foisting stuff on other people. My furniture (bed, bookshelf, desk) is going to my parents' guest room, sewing machine, tv, xbox, and some clothes to sister, hurls and plants and exercise mat to a friend (mostly as a joke), books to secondhand stores and schools, etc, etc, etc.

Harry Potter. Sister was interested in reading it, so she got dibs and read it while I was at work. Apparently it isn't that good, alas.

A book on culture shock, a work-ish blouse and pair of pants, a pair of running shoes, some make up that suits my summer tan.

On my mother's behalf, fifteen gallons of oil-based wood stain -- I've been painting their new fence.

I've been wanting to get more into JRPGs, so I went and bought a Nintendo 2DS. It probably would have been smarter to buy a PS Vita, but I can't justify paying $200 on a handheld. I later purchased Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright after having a good long whine about how much games for the damn thing costs.

Speaking of games, I also purchased the following for PC:

The Legend of the Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
Valkyria Chronicles
