Title: The Away Thread
Post by: Great One on August 24, 2009, 05:29:06 PM
...and possibly the longest thread title, as of yet. Hah. :P

As I was saying to James in chat, you just don't know what you're gonna get with this place. One week, a newcomer arrives, the next he's gone. The next week, an old member will return, they'll hang around for a while, and then vanish in a poof of smoke. It's an unstable place, to say the least. But we do have some core members around that one should be aware of their comings and goings. So, this is the place to record them. The place for us to welcome you back, when you've went errant. The place to say, 'we care and are glad to have you among us', or other gay sentiments.

As for me, I am around! Tread carefully, lest you tread upon my dreams...

My eyes ache from trying to absorb the magnitude of this place!  It looks great though, and it's great to see so many people still active.  Kudos to the Admins for keeping it up and looking so good, and the Mods and members who give them a reason to.  Cheers!

How's the Wolf doing, as well? We haven't seen him in a while.

Thanks bro.  I assume Wolf is doing well these days.  I've not talked with him in quite a while myself although I pass him on the street now and then.  I know he has a lot going on with work and on the side as well, being active in community programs and such as that.  I believe he was elected president of the local Son's of the Confederate Veterans chapter and that alone will keep him running overtime.   He'll check in when he slows down a bit no doubt.

survived the food and water

Hey Coe, welcome back. Yeah, I can't say I enjoyed the food there at all, myself. Didn't have any trouble with the water, though...or I don't think I did...I spent a lot of my drinking on non-water varieties, though. :D

I wonder if I could narrow down Coe's 500+ post advantage over me.

I do believe I've held the Hall's highest poster crown once before, until Alrin snatched it from my glorious brow, the usurper! (Ignoring/forgetting the fact I stole it, in the first place) Then Darkon stole in, before I returned to the Kingdom. And then he fell by the wayside, and Coeshaw climbed slowly up onto the pedestal...ahhh.

Help me, people! We have a month, while he's away; I can not do it alone.

Hi all,
I hope everyone is keeping well and behaving . Singapore is going very well so far, work is very busy but I expected that.
Last night I did the Night safari and on Friday went out to one of the super clubs here called Zouk which was good fun. I think I am getting used to the hot and humid weather, only seen 5 minutes of rain so far which is good.

I still don't have a peronsal laptop as I am waiting for Apple to release new Macbook Pro's so I can't get online very regually just yet or upload any photos. Tonight I am meeting up with my uncle for dinner who is in Singapore with his work.

Probably be online again next weekend.

Joe

Hi all, hope you are all keeping well. Singapore is still going well, had a good night out at Clarke Quay yesterday (usually a good evening when you get a girls number). The night safari is basically a zoo but at night, There is a land train that goes round some of the enclosures, and you can also walk around and get alot closer to the animals. The bat enclosure is great as bats and flying foxes are swooping down everywhere and landing so close to people.

Still can't be online often so unfortunatly I will not be around much for another few weeks. Next weekend I will be moving into my own condo which I am looking forward to

Getting the number is the easy part Coe its not making a fool of yourself when calling it that gets me :elf_gloop:

A night safari sounds an awful lot like jumping into a scene on Jurassic Park and we all know how that went...

Good to hear your having fun!

Hi all, I am still really enjoying Singapore, went out last night and did not get back to the hotel until 4am and had to be back at work for 06:30, that was painful as the hangover did not kick in until about 9am when I was really hanging. I have started moving into my condo today, had a mattress delivered. I move out of the hotel this weekend, then over the next 2 weeks I am having things like a sofa, dining table etc delivered. I doubt I will have much net access over the next 2 weeks as Singtel need to install a phone line and then broadband in the condo, so see you around when I can.

Sorry I have not been around in the last few weeks, I moved into a new condo but still do not have net access. The net and TV is being installed on the 24th so I should be online a bit more regularly from then.

Singapore is awesome (except the work part). Went on a amazing party boat last weekend which was lots of fun, I have met some really cool people so have been going out most evenings (bloody expensive stuff when its 7 quid a pint). Anyway will talk more next week when I will try and upload some photos.

Hmmm.  I must have hit a time warp or something cause it sure doesn't seem like a year since I was on here.   Thanks for your PM, Great One.  I actually went to answer you when you first sent it, but I couldn't remember my password and was too lazy to do a reset at the time.  :D

My return today is motivated by my maybe being able to contribute to the Hall, considering I've been away so long.  We had a feature years ago for ordering books via Amazon, and the Hall would benefit.  Is that feature still in place, cause I have no idea where to look for it?   :P

My friend's latest book was released on Dec 7th, and I've been procrastinating on ordering and don't feel like driving to the city to get it.  He deals primarily with Amazon and as I was opening the window to their site, bells went off that the Hall had a deal with them at one point years past.  This way I can support him and the Hall and not feel quite so guilty for being a ghost around here. :D

I hope everyone is doing well, had a great Thanksgiving and will have a butt deep white Christmas.  :D :D

Nice job you have there, Vega. :) I'll hopefully get around the main cities of Europe (outside the UK and Ireland) in the future. Hit Europe strong after a year in the States, maybe. Speaking of which, I got approval from the Americanos, so I'm good-to-go...almost. Living there permanently shouldn't change my online habits too much, especially with the board lagging like a zombie. But you're all more than welcome to fill-in. Christ, it's not like it wouldn't be needed.

Soccer was called that here, before the US was even a thought. And I'm moving for personal reasons, which should be obvious. No rational person would selectively chose the Dread Empire as a place to live. Don't plan on hanging around there until I get sick and then die.

Soccer, Football, Futbol...whatever. We call it "Wogball" in Australia. Well, by "we" I mean "they", and by "they", I mean the AFL hicks. But yeah. Football can mean various things here, including Soccer, AFL and Rugby, all which have reasonable claims to the name. I guess Rugby and "Association Football" were pretty much the first two, and AFl and NFL are bastardisations of Rugby. But AFL predates NFL, so take THAT America! Haha!

Post by: Kikori on June 27, 2012, 02:26:14 AM
It was a month, actually, Avie. :) Hahahaha.

But, don't worry (nor tut): I didn't spend it all in front of the TV.

Went up the coast for a couple of days at a B&B and also hit the shack for 3 or 4 days.

Also hit up Melbourne to see mum and my brother, as well as a bunch of the boys. (Plus an old girlfriend, for good measure).

Was still moving house for the first week, so there was plenty of outdoors then as well. Which sucked, by the by.

But for the rest of the time I was in front of the box, watchying up a storm, playing video games and being lazy as f**k!!!! YAY FOR KIKS!!!

you should check out the Hieronymusch Bosch in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Not that i've been there, but a Bosch is always pleasant to watch. They've also got one of the Sunflowers by Van Gogh, if that's more your thing. It always frustrates me when key pieces in Netherlandish art (although the Bosch isn't that great for a Bosch) are in foreign museums somewhere. the french made a real effort with that Louvre of theirs which consists of mostly stolen work.

but anyway, have fun!

We did go to the library, though, which was.... beautiful. The library here is quite good, in terms of function... wide catalog, plenty of public services, that sort of stuff. The Philly library had lots and lots of books, big old wooden tables, and enormous! cathedral-like vaulted ceilings.

We stepped in the lobby of a Catholic church, didn't go in properly, it scared me. Not.. fear, but just this ... something. I'm not a church person. It was big. And had lots of fancy 'touches', you know?

Library was awesome though.

how can one be opposed to art museums?
Title: Re: The Away Thread
Post by: Edhelur on September 16, 2012, 01:35:30 AM
I just don't appreciate them. I don't 'get' it. They end up boring me, and while I can pretend not to be bored, I don't like doing so. End up feeling like a kid dragged in on a nice day to do grown-up things, you know?

Now, put me in an art supply shop, or a fabric store... and I'm like a kid in a candy shop, even if I don't buy anything.

No, of course not. I know the work that goes into a lot of art, classic and contemporary, is incredible. And when it's isolated -- like seeing a short series of paintings or sculptures at, say, a coffeehouse -- I love looking. Maybe even the small one-room gallery at the library, they do shows for community artists and the like.

But going into a gigantic building full of it... I get bored, envious, annoyed, and generally unappreciative.

Joe and I went to a tattoo parlor today, the guy had a wall covered with sketches. Absolutely gorgeous, man. Made me want to work on something myself. Actually have the beginning of a sketch in front of me now. Am going to go do that now, I think.

Some things don't change.  I will teach her about boys like you.

Thank you Al  and Myd
Yes Myd that sounds like me lol.
This time though I have a great tale. I've just got her and myself home after four weeks in hospital. She was delivered at 31wks emergency style because I had a brain infection and was taking seizures and if they didn't deliver the baby neither of us would be here. I was then in a coma for 2wks and when I started to come round didn't know anything of the last 2years. Didn't know my family, where I lived, worked, what year it was, didn't know I'd had a baby or been pregnant (and had to be reminded 5times a day) and didn't remember her dad. I thought I was still with my sons dad. All very confusing stuff. Still can't remember any of it and have difficulty retaining short term stuff. My long term memory is fab. Hence I'm here.

We are okay, yea, fortunately. Some pretty stunning stuff. Was talking to a friend who works in water resource management around the world and he was saying how he's seen floods in Asia and Europe and Africa and the East Coast and, well, never thought he'd see one like this here in Boulder. We live in a "semi-arid"/semi-desert zone!

I think it's nearly ten years since I first joined - I guess you change a lot between 15 and 25. Anyway, I might hang around a bit. Just wanted to say hi. I think I might be in chat but not sure I navigated there correctly ...

Happy new year!

Ha. Last thing I remember, you where one of the members who could go well with a little maturing. Then again, same could've been said about me. Be that as it may, it is always nice to see old members return, and at the moment the site can use some regular members. At the moment it is just me replying to my own comments...

Man, I couldn't find this place at first.  I was looking for .net and saw a bunch of "buy domain name" type stuff floating around and started to get upset.  Mostly at myself, for not visiting more regularly than every few years.  Glad I am to see It LIVES!  Glad to see familiar names posting recently (this year).

I have been very absent lately here, not that anyone noticed (I really don't mean that in a passive aggressive way, more of a 'not that I'm going to make or break this place' kind of way).

Sorry about that. I have had so much going on in my life its insane, that's my only excuse. And now, I'm about to start a new job (yay) which means I will likely have even less time than ever for a while.

So, I will attempt to stop by once in a while and post about a movie or something, but keep on keeping on.

In the meantime.... Go Broncos

I meant where has the time gone. God i remember logging on here one christmas period, beer in hand on dial up. And then spent the entire christmas period on it in between drunken pass outs lol. My family had left me  home alone at christmas for the first time and my work was closed due to snow and christmas.
Now it's getting to christmas many years later, my family are getting ready to go on holiday, I live in my own house, don't drink, had an entire career which peaked then was made redundant, had two kids and almost died in a coma.

Man you guys are a bloody jinx x

Kind of in and out here 'cause I'm crazy busy. Taking full time classes and two jobs (though only about 20hrs between the two) = not enough time to post on here.

It's Thanksgiving break! I give thanks for a week of break!

Will be trying to be a bit more active on the HoW. If we all do our part, we can get the community up and running i believe.

All-in-one is nice, but the drawback is that when everything goes down and you're forced to mobile phone there pay/minute service number. Which is a pain in the ass unless you can email a helpdesk with 3G/4G.

Anyway, will try to be here more often. No lies there.

hi lads, Ive been doing good. I'm in a new job which I'm loving, on the downside the missus has figured out how to use the laptop, so between her and the kids I rarely get a look in.

Time for a second (second-hand) laptop.  :king:

Saw the email about the facebook page an decided to check out the old place again. Was quite surprised to find it still populated at all, Looks like it's been abour 4 years since I've logged on, which was right after I graduated high school. A quick summary of my past 4 years then: Finished university with a Bachelor of Science (Physics Major). Since February, I've been working full time in a job that has nothing to do with that, working for Australia Post in one of the sorting centres, which is night work (6pm-2am). Just recently (in the past 6 months) I also joined a gym and have since lost about 10kg, down to 90 (I've been talking about that every opportunity I get)

Gorath, welcome home.
Congrats on the weight loss, that's some achievement. I'd love to drop 10 kg

I'll be AFK most of the next three weeks. Holiday and such. Joe, leaving the newsletter up to you. Just post the topic with content under news on december first and I will try to get it on the FB page asap after that.

Laters! *tips hat*

Yes, rejoin the dark side. I successfully taught myself to regularly visit this place again. I made two shortcuts on my phone. One to the forum and one to the chat. That seemed to do the trick. /unaskedfortip
