Why Ray don´t do Midkemial like WoW game?

Hi all,

im really deep interested in Ray´s Books - ill have read my first one when it has arrived to Czech Republic, which im came from. I now have all Ray´s book and i really think that Riftwar Saga - in CZ language Trhlinové Války is the top fantasy book sage from all which i ever read (plenty).We are small nation - about 10.000 000 ppl but we have strong Ray Fan community here in Czech. I now play WoW games and i think that this is the right way to celebrate Ray´s world to entire gaming world - bcause i believe that World of Warcraft has strong story line (in some parts of story is comparable to Ray´s) - maybe they has inspired from Him? - but if they inspired - was it for good think - WoW is now my favorite game, bcause Betrayal is first love of my life - but if you completed it 10x like me, its not funny as for first time and you become searching for some similar game, and I found it in WoW - but its my marriage for wisdom not for real love.
When was first announced 11/1997 that come something different from world famous Warcraft II
i don´t even think that Blizzard will be able to make it - it does´t make any sence to me in that time, and i ask my self many times, why i want to play for every peon in game? But it will work, you may choose any class, rase and craft - anything you wanna be - you become to be. Whole world has wery strong story line which thousand of Quests - and some more factor´s are comparable to Ray´s book. For example: Some NPC is Legendary - with owerpovered strenght - same for Riftwar - its impossible play with example Ashen Shugar - if this too powerfull allie will be playable, and if you want make him or others like Jimmy the Hand to become playable character - all story line goes to crapp...but if we transfer it to something like World Boss - like in WoW for example Thrall or undead queen Sylvanas - it start to make sence. Only one huge problem ill see with story time line, because WoW has three previous games, that most of players know well - we all know all characters from Midkemia, but Question IS - Will you want to play with famous 1st age - like Ashen Shugar, Kulgan, Pug, or you only want to heard about themselves from story legends? I think that 99.9% of player says - YES I WANT to play with MY HEROES...but as i write above - this is not good for game story.   So I believe, that Ray will solve this Great dillema for us MMORG Deep Hard Core fans and sign some contract to developed and transformed Riftwar Sage with some game developers company - must be much better than poor Siera that is near bancrupt - ill think that one possibility is Blizzard - bcause its only one World known Game Developers team which be able to come Riftwar to be most playable MMORG of the entire history of PC games :-D WoW now has 6.000 000,- active paying subscribed players - but if will be developed somethin HUGE like Riftwarr - i believe that will get 6.000 000,- player in 1st month of playing - that´s my oppinion and i really believe that Ray will read my topic before i gett banned from spamming with WoW - but i really need to tell it - bcause i quit my subscribe of WoW (ill play from 1st day untill now) same day that Blizzard and Ray will sign contract :-D

You know I have thought about this before, and, as a WoW player, I think that would pretty much the coolest thing ever if they did that.  However, I believe as games are made right now, I would not want it to be made into a massive 3d environment where everything is shown.  Until recently, I was terrified of Betrayal when I first heard of it.  Yes, I was instantly excited I could see the world of Feist, but I quickly became worried it would destroy my image of Midkemia and would lose my imagination how things are in Midkemia.  Unless Feist sat next to devolopers, saying, put that tree THERE.  I would not be excited, and would make sure I never saw a screenshot.  His world is delicate, for me anyways, and it could be easily destroyed.  If Krondor wasn't made the way Krondor is supposed to be, exactly, it would not be Midkemia, that goes for the misplacement of a tree as well.  =P   My two cents.

While I think it  would be pretty cool to run around Midkemia, I don't think that a WoW type of Riftwar game would be as lucrative as World of Warcraft.  Yea they have around 6 million subscribers. On initial release in China there was 1.5 million so now probably 1/2 of that 6 million is in china where I don't think Feist is all that popular.

Yes feist has 15 million books in print but that is divided by 22 books.  So if every feist fan has only purchased 10 his books that would make a fan base of 1.5 million and how many of those actually play computer games or are hardcore enough to fork out $15.00 per month.  Of course there would be some computer game players that would get attracted if the game was made properly.

As much as we all love Feist and his novels, I just don't think that the liscense would be lucrative enough for any big game company to fork out millions of dollars to give it a try.

A couple of years ago it nearly happened. A small game development company bought the rights to make an MMORPG based in the Midkemian universe, but they couldn't get any distributors to pick up the tab, so the game fell through.

The interest is there, but the big game companies just didn't want anything to do with it.

In late 2000, early 2001, the asking price to license the world was in the six figures. To develop a quality game would require in the millions, so the license cost is the least of the worries really.

That said, a small, hardworking and very talented team could pull it off ... actually making the game that is. As for distribution... if the game is good enough, online distribution is entrenched now.

As for the details. REF said to me that he has every last hex laid out for the world, every detail, where everything is. Along with the license presumably comes his help and input on the project.

I'll be honest with you all...the new Elder Scrolls 5/Skyrim game is about as close as one could possibly get to the original Return to Krondor. All four of my sons pointed this out on their own.
