Hello, Honest Johns!
« on: September 19, 2013, 04:19:01 PM »

Hello Everyone,

I don't know how common this is, but I was hooked on Midkemia through Midkemia Online which takes place directly after the Riftwar Saga. From there, the game has gone on its own tangent with a world heavily constructed by the community as a whole. I'm here mostly because I've greatly enjoyed the Riftwar saga but was also extremely excited about the Chronicles of Pug, which there seems not yet to be a topic for.

I'm really excited and hopeful that there are other individuals who enjoyed the Riftwar Saga as much as I did and I'm curious if anyone else has tried to follow maps while reading the book to try and figure out where certain events took place. Specifically approximately where on Triagia the rift to Kelewan was. As I only got interested in Feists work within the last year and a half, I'm curious as to a few things, one of them being, "Has the map of Midkemia in the front of Magician: Apprentice always been the way it was." I know there is an earlier map of Midkemia, but I was never sure if that was the original Map that appeared in the original book.

Most individuals seem to be content with the maps at Elvandar.com, but as an individual who not only wishes to know the lore but expand upon it, I'm curious if anyone else has tried to add to the map more than what is seen in the Midkemian Gazeteer.

Hi. Welcome to our thriving community.

Specifically approximately where on Triagia the rift to Kelewan was.
I'll assume you mean the initial rift the Tsurani used as a base through the first Riftwar, and not the stabilised rift located at Stardock in the later books. From memory, and it's been a while, the initial rift was basically due west of La Mut, hidden within Yabon Forest in a valley at the base of the Grey Towers.

Yes, the map from Apprentice is the same map throughout the books. And Elvandar.com seems pretty up to date as is. I notice their main Triagia map includes Ebar these days.

I forgot about that Chronicles of Pug atlas thingy. I'll probably check it out eventually once it's released. Maybe. One day.

Again, welcome. Hope you stick around. Just don't be too disappointed at our lack of enthusiasm for Ray's work. We all loved him once, it's why we're here. It's just that once was a long, long time ago.

I joined for the free blender.  There is no free blender. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but it gets easier after the first ten years.

It is never easy. It is good to see new blood again; can't really remember the last time a new member joined who didn't try to sell me shoes. although I do love my shoes

Would you like to buy shoes? I can sell you shoes. I found some lovely slippers that were said to be taken right off of the corpse of Aruthia Condoin around the second year of the reign of Lyam in the year of the Great Uprising at Sethanon.

Though I'll sell you them at a discount price. Turns out in the end Arutha was still alive and the guy who was laid to rest in his name was some agent of a goblin kisser. :goblin: .

I'm rife with naïvety as to where the story goes after the Riftwar Saga. (I'm told it gets extremely inconsistent at times) Hopefully I'll have some things refreshing to say rather than just annoying.

A quick question: Feist never really expands much on goblins and trolls does he? That's one thing I think would be interesting to expand upon. I'm currently reading Honored enemy because I was told it gives more information on the Moredhel perspective.

I found out Tolkien (who Feist seems to have taken from in ways more than just an 'homage) tried to make a story from the perspective of the Goblins and Orcs but it got to the point were he said 'This is just too damn depressing and uninteresting' and quit.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

Holy new member, Batman. Somebody new joined? And posted? In the ENTRANCE?? Is this 2005?

Welcome aboard the "We used to be REF fans express", Kirraxus.

You'll notice that lots of the conversation revolves around Baz's infamous love of women's clothing.

A quick question: Feist never really expands much on goblins and trolls does he? That's one thing I think would be interesting to expand upon. I'm currently reading Honored enemy because I was told it gives more information on the Moredhel perspective.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

We get all excited when someone strolls through the ghost town.

As to your question, on which I'll try and be vague so as not to spoil too much for you.

Spoiler: show
Goblins and Trolls are not really explored all that much to be honest, as they feature more as combat fodder for the good ol' Moredhel. Feist tends to focus more on human-on-human-on-elf type scenarios. Though you get your fair share of demons.

Talk to Alrin if you wanna hear about how good Honoured Enemy is. He was going on about it just yesterday! Hahahaha. But we're all fairly knowledgable on ol' REF if you wanna throw questions out. Otherwise the forum is full of threads that'll clear most things up.

I'm off to find out more about this blender I was apparently supposed to get.

I think you'll find that's a different kind of "Fantasy". Not the kind Kikori is thinking about, if you get my meaning ;)

Greetings.

I'm not here very often. You can have my seat.
