Darkwar Rocks!!
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:33:30 PM »

I just finished the Darkwar series last night. Absolutely loved it! Especially "Wrath of a Mad God".

One thing bugged me though (not really but you know what I mean)

Spoiler:  • show
Why did Erik say he wished he had gotten married and had kids? What happened to Kitty? He married her in the Serpentwar books. And then in another part Kasper says something about how he's never seen an elf(?)... WTF? he was standing in Elvandar when it was attacked by the evil doers in Conclave series... right? or do I have that wrong?

Anyway, loved it. Now on to Empire (which I wish I had read, as well as the Riftware legacy books before hand since they were referrenced so much). :soldier:

you're right about that 'bug-things', i was asking it myself as well.
Spoiler: show
eric indeed married Kitty and Kaspar talked for hours with Tomas and fought side by side with the elves

nevertheless, it's a great trilogy

it's way different than the riftwar and the serpentwar books, it's a whole new part of Midkemia that you discover. (When I finnished WoaMG, I honestly didn't knew what to do. It was so overwhelming that i had to speek with someone about it. That's when I discovered this forum.)
Spoiler: show
I thought that this was the last episode of the whole series, with most of the maincharacters gone, and with them kelewan. So I'm very curious how the next books will be!

Empire series and the legends are great as well, have fun!

I just finished WoaMG last night and I agree that it was a good book, but yes, there were some HUGE continuity errors in it......concerning Erik, Kasper, and others. I actually found FIVE major instances in this one book where a statement completely contradicted things that happened in previous books. Thats pathetic. Everyone has been saying that Feist is falling off, and I never would have believed it before, even though King of Foxes, Exile's Return, Into a Dark Realm, and the first 200 pages of WoaMG were only OK........but those errors have cemented it in my mind. That is the sign of an author who just doesn't care anymore.

Anyway, the last half of WoaMG was great. I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was fun to read. I must say though, that when I finished it last night, I was really sad. I know that there will be more books.....at least I hope there will....soon, but for now that is my last foray into Midkemia. I have tons of other books and series to read, but I had a hard time picking which one to start on next. I picked up the omnibus of the first three Drizzt books ( Exile, Homeland, and Sojourn ) and after the first 55 pages just can't seem to get into it. I'll read a bit more as the only thing concerning Drizzt that has happened is his birth, so I'll give it a bit more time, but if not, then this baby is going back to Barnes and Noble for a $35 Merc Card. Whenever I get really nice hardbacks like this, I always take the dust jacket off and keep the book in pristine condition for the first 100 pages or so, in case I want to return them. Anyway, if this doesn't work out, I don't know what I want to start. I would prefer to start completed series over incomplete ones like ASoIaF and AMBoTF, maybe I'll go with the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone by Greg Keyes. They've gotten good reviews and the final book is out in hardback, so I can go buy it today.

I'll be missing Midkemia for a while, though.

Knowing you have Bakker, I'm tempted to suggest his Prince of Nothing. The trilogy is complete and so, while it ends with you certainly wanting more, that story does reach its conclusion. Thing is, Bakker is good. I mean really good. Reading him before Abercombie, Keyes, et al, is bound to make those works appear lesser later on.

Yes. It's that good.
