End of Midkemia?
« on: April 16, 2009, 06:37:24 PM »

I remember reading either on a thread here or somewhere that these last 2 series(Demon War Saga and Chaos War Saga) were going to be the last books dealing with Midkemia. Is this correct so far as we know? I and I am sure many others wish things could have worked out so REF could have finished the Krondor series and told who the crawler was. The other thing about the end of the Midkemia series is what will become of Pug and Tomas. I would like to see Pug retire from the life of fighting evil and become an explorer of the Hall of Worlds. Tomas, well I am not sure what I would wish for him.

From what I understand, the final book will be called "Magician's End" ... extrapolate what you will from that, but to me it says all I need to know about how the story comes to a close.

Yeah, Magicians End is going to be the final book. Or that's the plan, in any case. I wouldn't be surprised though if he wrote more after that, sometime in the future.

It will be sad for me to see the end of the Midkemia books. Magician holds a special appreciation for me. I first read it at a tough time in my life when I was going through a lot medically, physically, and emotionally. That book offered me the escape from reality that my mind needed at the time. Since then I have read Magician many time over.

Yes me too but as much as I have enjoyed most of REFs books a lot, and I will be sad for it all to come to an end, I think there's only so many times the world can rest in Pugs hands, I'd like to see more accompanying books along the lines of The Empire Trilogy (Magician aside they have been my favourite), perhaps some background story on the   Cho 'Ja...but I can't honestly see it happening.

i think we would all be sad to see the end of the books. but i will be especially sad to see pug go because the very first actual fanstasy book i read was magician... and that was many years ago. i get too involved in ref's books and get to attached to the characters. it took me months to get over the whole jimmy thing. honestly...ill be very sad and probably cry. but i know it has to end sometime....

I agree that there is only so much he can write about with Pug and Tomas stepping in to save the world in the end. That is why I would really have liked a book about the crawlers attemp at taking over the mockers. A book like that could easily avoid a world ending event and focused on a few characters without magical abilities such as Jimmy, Locky, and Arutha.

I think maybe not Midkemia, itself, but the universe, anyway, has a hell of a lot more stories in it. As I went on in this thread, the potential for future stories is most definitely there. :)

I seem to recall quite a few years ago that question being broached, but can't recall the origin of the answer.  If it was in one of the HoW interviews we did with REF, or on the fan email, but REF stated he wouldn't be doing anymore work with Janny Wurts, and there would be no follow-ups to the Empire series.  Which sucks, cause I loved that series.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing this, either. I know it takes money to make Ray's world go around, but it still doesnt' stop me from wanting to read something new in that particular series.

True, I never understood why the Krondor series wasn't completed.

As for the end of Midkemia, It wouldn't surprise me if somebody else took up the challenge of writing books based within the universe. It doesn;t actually belong to Feist anyway, does it?

Surely some enterprising author would take advantage of a full universe with an endless amount of possiblities.
