I was wondering
« on: September 25, 2006, 02:54:40 PM »

do you guys remember the scene with thomas and pug sat on a log talking about thomas' powers?
Spoiler: show
(i think it was on the garden forever) anyway thomas is re-telling how martin was going to shoot him with the arrow, so he demonstrates his new powers by crushing a rock by shear force of will.Im pretty sure thomas lost this power after the lifestone was destroyed, but i might be wrong, my point is though, if the valheru were powerfull enough to kill beings with just a thought, why did they have so much trouble with the dasati?
- Darkness at Sethanon + Rage of a Demon King spoilers

c,mon guys give me your wisdom.

The following is just an assumption. I haven't read IaDR and so lack any relative information found within.

Spoiler: show
As Kalkin explains in Exile's Return, beings from the second circle are much more powerful (and thus harder to kill) than creatures from the first (this even goes for common animals of that plane). The Valheru, as powerful as they were, were natives of the first circle (Midkemia). There's also the fact that the dasati vastly outnumbered the Valheru, so while an individual dragonlord could withstand an individual dasati (and I imagine with relative ease), the overwhelming numbers of dasati ultimately proved too much for them.

I think I have a better answer....but it is a MAJOR SPOILER for Into a Dark Realm....so Alrin, and anyone who hasn't read it, I'd avoid this one until you read the book.

Spoiler: show

Snowlock, that bothered me too that in previous books the Valheru were only really challenged by the Dread (from the 6th Circle, or Outside the circles...conflicting view).  I didn't understand how some 'Robots' from the 2nd Circle could mess them up....

Remember that the Valheru were finally defeated by the new gods of Midkemia (the god of magic and a few others were destroyed (somewhat...) during this battle).  It tooks Gods to take the Valheru down.....so....

Also it is REVEALED in IaDR that the Talnoy don't just house a person's spirit, but house the souls of the Gods of the Dasati homeworld that were imprisoned by the Dark God of the Dasati.  So it wasn't 'Robots' versus the 'Dragonhost'.....it was 1st Circle Gods versus the 'Dragonhost'...now I understand why the Valheru didn't mess with the Dasati after that.

Thats a great point, and i should have known really, thats the trouble with reading a book in a few hours, you forget things.

There is also another thing. I hasn't read Into a Dark Realm yet, it takes a little time for them to come to Sweden.
Spoiler: show
In Rage of a Demon King, when the Lifestone is gone Tomas looses some of his Valheruan inheritage, he is not as strong as he was before.
