Jimmy the Hand (NOT the book)!
« on: March 12, 2005, 11:06:18 PM »

Hey, new here, wanted a favour from you all!
Basically, I want your help.
I've just read Jimmy the Hand, and enjoyed it, but I know that I've read other Feist books before featuring this character, which I enjoyed far more.
So, which books feature Jimmy the Hand? I know he's not always a thief - I recall him becoming very important. I suppose I want anything featuring him, but would love it if you could tell me if there's a book telling how he gets that exalted (if unwanted, if I remember correctly?!) position!
Thanks guys!

Yeah, the list of books that shows how he came to such greatness are:

Spoiler: show

Silverthorn
A Darkness at Sethanon

Prince of the Blood

Those three are basically him before the age of 40, the first two are him in his prime really. There are also some of the Krondor Series books.

The ones when he is older, until he dies are:

Shadow of a Dark Queen
Rise of a Merchant Prince
Rage of a Demon King

He has a smaller role in SoaDQ, but plays larger parts in RoaMP and RoaDK.

I don't think his rise to greatness was unwanted.

[spoilers] since he first met Arutha in Magician he has said he wanted to become Duke.[/spoilers]

don't forget his role in the Betrayal at krondor, krondor the assasins, and krondor, tear of the gods books.  He played large parts in those too.

Hey, yea, I really loved Jimmys role in the Legacy series...

Spoiler: show
...it showed him in his true nature as a thief, but also, at the same time, in his capacity to be a dignitary.

This may be slightly off topic, and I urge you not to read this spoiler if you are keen on Jimmy and have not read 'prince of the blood'....

Spoiler: show
...did any of you feel, as i did, that jimmys role in Prince of the Blood was slightly spoiled by his rushed relationship with Gamina.  I know that it was necessary to have the link for books like the serpant war, but I would have liked to have seen a relationship developing between Gamina and Jimmy over the course of the book and unveiled at the end...similar to Anthony and Marget or Harry and Brisa in The Kings Bucaneer.

Sorry for going off topic on you there, but I just wandered if the rest of you had an opinion?

Well, personally, I didn't think it spoiled the book. There really wasn't much written about their relationship.
