Legends & Legends II
« on: October 13, 2004, 03:35:25 PM »

ON looking at the site shop links I saw Legends and Legends II, which appears to be a book full of stories from a load of famous writers.
I have heard of the Wood Boy but not the other one... the message I think it's called.
I'll probabley buy them eventually to complete the collection.
Has any one read either of the books, or the feist stories in the books, if so are they good?

I have both books (legends I and II) and finished them in two weeks time, the short stories that are in there are truly magnificent.  The two from Feist, as well from Hobb, Brooks, etc...

I recommend it to every fantasy fan, but some stories are harder to understand, because they are connected with the series, but since this is a Feist forum, everybody's read Him.

Just try and you'll enjoy

The Wood boy is an ok story set during the start of the Riftwar, The story in Legends II called "The Messenger" is a much better short story. Its also set during the Riftwar but its a bit longer and in my view has got more action and tension.

Most of the other short stories are also very good in the collections. Like Dreeken said a few assume you know the series they are based off. The George Martin and Robin Hobb stories are especially good.

Do either of Ray's stories contribute to the plot of the books as a whole in some major way?  If not, I may not read them for a while.

Neither of these 2 short stories play any part in the larger picture of the Riftwar, you don't need to read them. They are there to expand on the Riftwar storylines and give a glimpse at some famous characters again such as Borric ConDoin and Earl Vandros.

It'll be nice to read more about Borric, everyone who mensions him builds him up but we never got to meet him really!
They're on the christmas list, along with POTB director's cut!

They are out in Oz, just look in big stores like Borders or fantasy shops like Galaxy in Sydney.

Borders is one of the biggest chains of stores in the world. BTW these books will not be under Feist but either in the Anthologies section of fantasy or under Robert Silverberg.

Look in an Angus & Robertson or Dymocks. Even though I bought mine on Ebay, if you get the ISBNs and order them in through A&R or Dymocks, they'll probably arrive in a month or less.
