Official Into a Dark Realm Thread
« on: October 26, 2005, 05:39:47 AM »

Well, Flight of the Nighthawks has come and gone and left us with some pretty big questions. Mainly what the hell is going to happen to Midkemia and Kelewan with all this madness going on? Here all of us knowledgable people are going to discuss what we think is going to happen and our thoughts on certain aspects of the upcoming events.

Also, I'd like to point out that all Spoiler rules apply to this thread and if you do not obide by them then appropriate action will be taken by the administrative team here. I must stress, PLEASE put everything that reveals plots or theories into spoilers and also state at the end of the spoiler which books or things it involves.

I read somewhere (probably written by Coe) that Into a Dark Realm should be hitting stores next September, thats September 2006. I'm guessing the dates my change as time progresses, also if anyone has any information on book covers and what not please don't hesitate in letting us have a view.

Spoiler: show
Firstly, I have no bloody clue how they are going to find Leso Varen on Kelewan, there are just so many people on there that he could of used. Conclave is going to have a b**** of a time doing that.

Um, also I reckon Ralan Bek will become an important player in that they may send him into the Dark Realm, which is the Dasati home world (if anyone remembers that planets name please post) and he will kill the leader dude of the Talnoy so the conclave will have power over Talnoys... *shrugs*

That's just for starters....

-FoTN & Future Speculation

And with that, let the discussion begin.

If what you have to say is in reference to Flight of the Nighthawks, use the official FotN thread to post it.

Ok. To kick us off....

Those who have read FotN may have noticed something that, at first, may have appeared to be an error.

Spoiler: show
Prince Robert is mentioned as the Prince of Krondor.
- FotN Spoiler

Well, here's some info from the man himself to clear things up...

Spoiler: show
As for who Robert is and how he came to be Prince in Krondor, that will be explained in the next two books. Let's say for the moment that succession is more based on ability than blood.

-REF
- Into a Dark Realm/Wrath of a Mad God spoiler

Does this mean we'll see an end to the current dynasty? A new family ascending the throne? Personally I don't see it happening. If it turns out that Robert isn't a member of the royal family (as the the quote above may lead one to believe), I'm of the opinion that he'd be adopted in and given the name simply to keep the dynasty alive.

I hope that price drops. :D I'm a little annoyed 400 pages is planned, but I don't think many had high expectations on the length of the book. I would be willing to wait another year just for him to add an extra 200 onto that. The book should be good though. I'll order it a little closer to release date. Hopefully there won't be any problems that delays the release.

But didn't he say in that interview for the next two books he was going to focus on a more wider perspective then his most recent books? Damn him :P

Don't pay any attention to the page count, date and don't order it yet.

The page count is just a temp one as they need to add one to the site, Amazon UK always says a book will be about 400 pages when they add it well before release date.

Also the price is the list price, closer to release the price will drop by at least 30% to about £12.

Well, re-reading FotN has got me thinking again.

Spoiler: show
I'm pretty sure there will be something more mentioned in 'Into a Dark Realm' about the mind magic Uskavan can use and the messages being sent back in time. And I see a possible link between the two.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]
Spoiler: show
Pug had made contact with his homeworld a decade before, via the Hall of Worlds, and had agreed to let him study with the Conclave in exchange for sharing knowledge of his mind-magic.
[/quote]

[!--quoteo--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]
Spoiler: show
'Never ignore dreams, Pug. My people believe that parts of our minds are always at work, always seeking to understand things. Dreams are often means by which some parts of the mind communicate what is about to become conscious thought; especially when the emotions are strong. Our races are not that different; when it comes to the workings of our minds we have much in common.'
[/quote]
Spoiler: show

I see a connection between the two, but i'm not quite sure at the moment how it could fit. Pug learns mind-magic and utilises it to send his messages back? I don't want to drag SW into this, but Jacen Solo learns to warp time to fit in with messages he sends through the Force. Perhaps something similar will be used in this.

In regards to Al's point
Spoiler: show
I mentioned somewhere along the forums about the posibility of Prince Robert being Erik's son. Taking the name of Erik's hero, also showing his ability to lead (even though Erik denies it up and down) and also why people would start talking if Erik started looking younger then his son

-FotNh & Prince Robert Spoiler

Also in light of new information provided by Coe
Spoiler: show
Whom do you think will accompany Magnus on his trip to the Dasati Realm? (again the name of the planet escapes me, starts with a K I think) I was thinking possibly Ralan, Kaspar, Caleb, Tad & Zane. I spose if Kaspar goes Amafi will maybe go to, or Amafi might go to work on Kelewan... I surely hope so (something about him reminds me so much of Arakasi

Spoiler: show
I can't see Tad and Zane going to Kosridi. What good would they be? They'd be more of a hindrance than a help. I'm tipping: Nakor, Ralan & Kaspar. Ralan because he thinks like the dasati, Nakor because he's Ralan's "keeper", and Kaspar because he's "seen" Kosridi before.

Spoiler: show
Well what roles do you reckon Tad & Zane will play? Also that other guy, redheaded dude from Novindus (i forget his name at the moment) I know its not very likely they go to Kosridi, but still

What do you think about some new Tsurani or Kelewan characters making their way into the series?

Err.. the following is speculation etc. I think i'll spoilerise it just incase.

Spoiler: show
Zane and Jommy (the redhead) could always go to Kelewan, or perhaps they'll be left on Midkemia to deal with whatever happens there. Its interesting because there will most likely be events taking place on three different worlds, kosridi, Kelewan and Midkemia. So which characters will go where? There is Pug, Miranda, Magnus, Caleb, Tad, Zane, Jommy, Nakor, Ralan, Kaspar and Tal and all of them have to be occupied with one thing or another. Tomas is likely to pop up somewhere too. Itd be cool if he went to Kosridi.

Al is probably right with the people who'll be going there. Caleb and his three boys wouldn't be of much use. They lack experiance, are mortals and not as talented as Tal, Kaspar or Ralan.

I'm thiking Pug and Magnus will go to Kelewan, Pug because he knows Kelewan, and Magnus for no apparent reason (education?).
Kaspar, Nakor, Ralan and probably someone else will go to Kosridi.
Miranda, Caleb, and possibly Tal (if he doesn't go somewhere) will stay on Midkemia, along with the boys.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Could be completely different.

I think Magnus will go to Kosridi personally, along with Nakor, Ralen and Kasper as a sort of guide.

Is it possible that the beast that came through from Kosridi in Exile's Return and attacked Kaspar is the creature on the front cover of Into A Dark Realm? I can't remember the name of it, or the description...

EDIT: "It looked like a demented ape, with fangsthat were exposed when it curled back its lips. They were black, as were the gums. The eyes were yellow and had black irises. The ears looked like nothing as much as webbed bat wings, and the body like the torso of a man or large ape stuck upon the legs of a goat."

So probably not...

Ray said today that it's a creature called a 'Zarkis' but alas, he has no idea where the wings came from.

Below is Rays full comment on the cover.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]Anyway, that is supposed to be something called a Zarkis, but I have no idea where the wings came from.  As I'm still writing the book, I suppose I could toss in some "Flying Zarises," for the hell of it.[/quote]

Spoiler: show
Has to be Nakor (He seems to always stay alive and his "tricks" are more powerful than people think) and Ralan (cause hes a nutter) and of course Nakor will be there (this is all speculation) cause he has good chemistry with Magnus. Ohh well, I think we'll see Magnus hurt badly, he won't die i don't think but hurt. Ralan I think will die, defending Nakor as he rightfully should.
Should be a good read!
