order of raymonds books please please
« on: April 04, 2008, 09:11:04 AM »

I have recently become a fan of Mr Feist and his books.
I have read about 6 or 7 of them and I'm finding it difficult to know where to start and was wondering if anyone could tell me what order the books go in.
My partner got me interested in him and he has a few of his books but i would really like to start from the begining.
If i knew the order of the books i could start my collection from the begining and then there would not be any confusion.
For example i read the rift war legacy then started on the book called prince of the blood and thought to my self why are Aruthas sons grown up when this book i thought was written before  the rift war legacy if any one could help me i would really really appreciate it.

cheers Narissa

This thread should answer the question.

Basically, Ray went back and wrote the Riftwar Legacy (aka. the Krondor Books) and the Riftwar Legends (co-authored  by three separate individuals) after writing most of the other books. So while those two series may have been published after books like Prince of the Blood or the Serpentwar Saga, they actually come before in the internal  chronology of the setting.

I have asked my partner these questions but because there is a bit of an age gap between us he cant remember what order they went in

This thread should answer the question.

The link I included in my previous post, that I've now provided in the quote above, lists all the books in chronological order. That's what you're after, yes?

Heck, I'm feeling extra helpful. So here's the list that you'll find in said link. Now you don't even have to click the mouse button. Enjoy.

Untitled - 4th Riftwar [Demonwar] novel 2 (20xx)
Untitled - 5th Riftwar [Chaoswar] novel 1 (20xx)
Untitled - 5th Riftwar [Chaoswar] novel 2 (20xx)
Magician's End - 3rd Chaoswar novel and final book in "The Riftwar Cycle" (20xx)
--------------------

* Note: Magician was originally released as a single edition in 1982 and revised in 1992. Magician is also being adapted as a comic by Dabel Brothers. Click here for more details.
* Note: The Empire Trilogy has been placed at the approximate start point for each book. The books can (and should) be read as a separate trilogy as an aside to the Midkemian novels.
* Note: A revised/Authors Preferred Edition of Prince of the Blood was released in 2004.
* Note: Wrath of a Mad God info and dates are esitmates and are subject to change.
* Note: The 4th Riftwar is currently tentatively titled the Demonwar. The series is a planned duology. No further information is available at this time.
* Note: The 5th Riftwar is currently tentatively titled the Chaoswar. The final book is to be called Magician's End. The series is a planned trilogy. No further information is available at this time.
* Note: A fuller explanation of the order of the Legends series can be found here.
* Note: Betrayal at Krondor is a role-playing game published by Sierra Entertainment in 1993. Inducted into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame in 1996. Ray credits creators Neal Halford  and John Cutter as co-authors of the original story for the novelization Krondor: the Betrayal. Return to Krondor was released in 1998 (and forms the basis for Krondor: Tear of the Gods).
* Note: The Riftwar Legacy was planned as 5 books, the unwritten titles being Krondor: The Crawler, and Krondor: The Dark Mage. Ray recently announced that the project may see light of day as a single novel, though it looks unlikely due to contractual issues.
* Note: Profit and the Grey Assassin a short story set in the Hall of Worlds was released in 1982 before Magician was published. It does not affect any of the books.
* Note: The Wood Boy is also available in both comic book and graphic novel format.

--------------------
Key:
Riftwar Saga (1st Riftwar)
Empire Trilogy
Riftwar Aftermath/Krondor's Sons
Serpentwar Saga (2nd Riftwar)
Conclave of Shadows
Darkwar Saga (3rd Riftwar)
Demonwar Saga (4th Riftwar)
Chaoswar Saga (5th Riftwar)
Legends of the Riftwar
Riftwar Legacy
PC Games
Short Stories

And because I'm feeling really helpful, here's two more threads regarding similar queries.

Historical Order - aka. "What order should I read the books in?" - Includes a comprehensive (if perhaps debatable) explanation for the order of the short stories/Legends novels above.
Ordering Feist - aka. "What order do you prefer to read the books in?" - Includes various members' personal preferences in regards to what order the books should be read, as well as explanations for said reasons.
