I have just finished reading Magician (APE) and I loved it!
I plan on reading the rest of his series and I wonder which of his other books he has revised/expanded as I would like to read these in the cases where they are available.

So far the only other Author's Preferred Edition aside from Magician is Prince of the Blood. It was recently re-released and should be in stores everywhere now.

are there many changes in the APE's?

I'm a very poor person and I can't afford to buy two copies of a similar book, but I'm very interested to read these.

I haven't read the APE of PotB. No money for books and my library doesn't have it. And as far as I know, the APE's are only published in North America and maybe the UK as well.

I would have thought any copy of Magician bought in the last 10 years would be the APE in most countries. In Magician there is a lot added in I think about 25,000 words and is a better book which I highly recommend. POTB APE has about 10,000 extra words and there is not that much difference, if you are buying the book for the first time or to replace a book get the APE as it is better than the original but not worth a full purchase IMO. In places were the APE are out they have replaced the old editions, though old POTB can still be found on some book shelves in the UK that I know of.

Well in a way, I am proud to say that my Magician is the 1984 Panther Books edition (2nd I think as it was 1st published in 1983). I inherited it from my father and it's one of my most prized possessions.

I also got all of his many and varied really old Tolkein books as well.

could it be possible that the ape's (hehe) will ever be translated. C'mon 25000 words for magician, that's just too good to be true.
btw: almost finished exile's return.  And you just know there's lots more to come.

R.E.F. , you rule, hail to the master...

So stinking jealous right now!!!!

And to the Dutch members, I've got a copy of magician with some of the names being changed (Pug=Puc Calis=Caelis etc) , and I've got one where he is just called Pug, that's no ape right? I thought that just was a newe translation...

The APE's actually have a bit of new material in them. I have both copies of magican and there are a few differences between the copies but nothing substantial (or story altering really, except maybe the relationship between tomas pug and roland...I dub thee!!!! :) ) I havnt read the PotB APE yet...someone want to tellme what differs in that? i dont know about you guys but 10 000 words sounds like a fairly large inclusion to a relativley short book.

The only real differences to the POTB APE is links / references to the Krondor and Riftwar Legends books, a few lines here and there and a reworked final few scenes in the Empresses Court with a lot more fighting

APEs are usually just expanded editions of original publishings, nothing really changes, just there's more detail in parts

I'm pretty sure Carline used to call Pug "Poog" as well as Kamatsu in the original version of Magician.......
