The World of REF...
« on: July 24, 2006, 04:04:41 AM »

Does anyone happen to know if REF has any plans to release a book concerning the worlds of Midkemia, or relating to the trilogys that he has created?  I'm referring to something such as in cases of other fantasy authors like Robert Jordan, and Terry Brooks have "The World of Robert Jordan's THE WHEEL OF TIME, or in Brooks' case "The World of Shannara"?  If this question has been posted before in The Feist Forum I apologize ahead of time.

Not that I've heard of... So far I notice his universe is very fluid and not remarkably consistant...  You kinda have to read the latest books to keep up with the current version and explanation of the universe...

Btw, if you're new, which you are, don't forget to make an introduction post in the Entrance section.  *smiles*

Don't do it! She just wants to torment you!

As for your question, Liallan is right. Feist's world is probably too inconsistent for one such book. I doubt Feist knows his own wworld well enough to do it. Heck, Alrin probably knows Midkemia better than he does. I haven't heard anything, but maybe Al will release one...

You gotta be kidding. *pretends to have hurt feelings*
Why would I ever want to torment someone?

Because I taught you to do so? >_>

I don't think Alrin is waiting for such a heavy load / pain in the a** to do. Of course it will be nice honor, but the more inconsistencies Feist makes, the bitchier the job is. Unless you're granted to fix the errors. (That would be awesomely cool though.) Or as Pratchett said, there's no inconsistencies anywhere in my books, just alternative pasts.

The idea is nice though, but then again the HoW should be something like an info center as well. *Ahem*

I know of various individuals who were fans of a particular author and decided to write "guides" to the authors world. Of course, not only could these folk actually write, but they had the authors permission to proceed with such an undertaking.

So, question the first: Would Ray give permission for something similar?
Answer: I seriously doubt it.

Question the second: If he was to give permission, would Al actually be interested in doing it?
Answer: Depends on the pay

The Atlas of Midkemia whenever it is released will cover a lot of what might go into one of these books. I know John at Crydee has been wanting to do a book like this for years. For the time being the Atlas will be what to look out for.
