Tsurani Racism (major Empire series spoilers)
« on: April 10, 2008, 05:04:50 AM »

I just finished the empire series, and while i loved it and consider it one of the best series, i was a bit unsatisfied with the ending.

one of my major issues is
Spoiler: mistress of the empire • show
Justin being made emperor. it made me feel as though REF thought the Tsuranni just weren't good enough or needed to be more midkemian. and so much so that they need to be led by a half midkemian who obviously going to get more guidance from midkemia. Sounds a little silly but it quite annoyed me.

what does everyone else think?

is there an issue with spoilers displaying at the moment??

note re. spoilers - it does appear this spoiler didn't work. I suggest you send a Mod a PM in case they don't know yet.

As for the Empire discussion - I didn't think it was racist or elitist going for that particular new leader. I think it continued the theme of Mara and her struggle to forge a different system of advancement and honour in her society. No doubt the new leader would have 300 traditional wives and girlfriends etc etc.

i think you'll find that all the Midkemian and Kelewan races and cultures have one form of predjudice or another.

Tsurani hate Barbarians, Kesh is divided and united by race and culture, Isles is at war with everyone, Novindus is at constant struggle. Racsism is a necessary element of the conflicts in the books.

Eveyone, if they ever really care to admit it, is racist or at least a reverse racsist.

yeah i can understand that!
in a way i guess it just felt that ray was saying kingdom men are better. which may be as he did create the tsuranni to be the bad guys to begin with.

Perhaps the Midkemian bloodline being introduced to the Tsurani royalty was intentional simply for the purpose of forging a deeper rooted alliance between the two worlds, it certainly opens up many possibilities for future story lines, particularly in dealing with conflict arising from other realms.
