Valheru Sub-Races
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:07:57 PM »

In some of the early books, it is mentioned that the Valheru created sub races to serve them.
Spoiler: show
We see a lot of the elves (dark elves and otherwise), lots of the pantathians and related kin.  My question is, how many are there??  From my count, I see 3 major ones (I am including their branches too!), the Tiger Men, The Elves and the Pantathians.  Am I missing any???  When I read ER, and saw that they were going to the necropolis, I was hoping to see the Tiger Men.  I couldn't remember if the Emerald Queen killed them or not.  In my view, they were underated and underultilized.

Did I miss any???  Keep in mind, I used these as general classifications, and recall ones that reside in other places.

One you forgot was the Sauar also created by Alma Lodaka.

Remember the Elves were not created by the Valheru but are a species naturally from Midkemia same as the valheru were.

I counted the Sauur as a sub race, and should have said so!   I didn't recall that about the elves.  Thx!

Another sub-race created by Alma-Lodaka was the Panath-Tiandn (or Shangri)

Yeah, got them too.  (those guys along with others were what I meant by branches)  What I was wondering is did any of the other valheru, besides Draken Korin, Alma Lodaka create any sub races????  Sorry I wasn't clear--jmy minds is a tad jumbled at the moment.

I believe it was said there were hundreds of Valheru so there is a chance there are many more sub-races. On the other side, Alma Lodaka was much influenced by Draken Korin and Draken Korin was the one who got mad... who says all other Valheru got that mad too and that they should have had the power to create sub-races? Many questions...

I know Ashen Shugar kinda enslaved the great Eagles and during his control they gained in intelligence and after he died they went back to normal birds. But again he did not create the eagles.

So far, we have Draken-Korin's Tiger Men(Novindus), Alma-Lodaka's Pantathians, Panath-Tiadn, and Saaur.  That's all the actual intelligent Valheru-created races introduced so far.

What piques my curiosity is that Draken-Korin's Tiger men were referred to as the first of the races in ADAS, when the Valheru were primarily concerned with warring with the Midkemian gods... yet Valheru races show up on worlds conquered probably after.  I doubt the Valheru would be stupid enough to go massively raiding/world conquering whilst fighting a better organized, equal powered race.  Surely the Pantathians were created after, but the Saaur and Panath-Tiadn were likely created before those wars... thus making Draken-Korin's idea unoriginal and not mad per say(Valheru definition of madness I guess).

The Eagles existed prior to Ashen-Shugar, notice they were old enough to feed baby Ashen, so they exist more as a servant race akin to the elves(but somewhat lacking for the intelligence of the elves) but were not created directly to serve, nor were they raised from animality to intelligence, so they don't really fit into the same category as say, the Saaur...

True,
I guess they wouldn't be a sub race, but certainly a client race (I know, probably to technical), as he turned them to serve and do his will.  I'm sure other valheru did this, kind of in the vein of the king of bats (Lowris whatever).  Surely the bats existed before him, but he had the power to command them.

Agreed Woodcutter, that's what I was trying to say.

Ashen, no, the elves evolved naturally on Midkemia, but were not the uber-pwnage figures like the Valheru or Gods.

sure? cos really they are weaker versions of the valheru. they are supposed to look the same and stuff. is that a coincdence or did the valheru create them in there own image? i dont remeber them saying that that valheru did create them anywhere. but I dont remeber them saying they didnt either. I just always assumed that they did.

Reportedly, they have a shift in facial structure, size, and ear shape.  I don't recall the exact page or anything, but I suggest you reread all the lore in aDaS and Silverthorn about the elves and Valheru relationship
