A Crown Imperiled Thread
« on: January 15, 2012, 05:46:04 AM »

Use this thread for discussion of Ray's upcoming book, 'A Crown Imperiled', the penultimate novel in the Riftwar Legacy. It will be released at the end of the month in the UK (two days later in Australia), and a few weeks later in the US.

I'm excited. :dragon_red:

Bought the version that is now being recalled. Hope it's worth something.

Haven't had a chance to read past the prologue yet.

I'm about half-way through. The writing style seems MUCH better than the previous book. No infodumps so far. Though I'm still not sure why, at this point in the Epic!!! fantasy cycle, I still need to read about two noblemen getting all hot and bothered from two beautiful princesses.

I liked the part where Feist finally gets the moredhel involved again, but I hated the part where he does it by totally messing up Gorath's backstory, and the part where he's again making carbon copies of characters - in this case, re-using the "moredhel turns renegade for the good of his kind" idea, only it's watered-down because it doesn't have the same poignancy now as it did shortly after The Great Uprising, and the offense of doing a carbon copy is even greater because Gorath was never his character in the first place.

We'll see how it pans out.

They were recalled because of at least one major error in the writing of the book. The story reads that Pug was in a particular location and met some beings but then later on Pug comes to this place a second time and the story reads that it was Magnus who originally met these beings.

I picked up the book from Amazon last week and my copy still has the error in it.

Not a biggie on my part because I read of the complaints before reading the book.

I liked the book in general but felt there wasn't enough "action" in the sense of the big picture. Lots of minor plots and subplots but when it came to all of the activity "outside of the kingdom of the isles" I felt a bit let down. The last 20 or so pages though is really compelling and I do greatly look forward to the last book. It better be like 600+ pages though or he won't be doing the story the proper justice that it deserves.

What he said. Also, who is this Feist and what is A Crown Imperiled?

First post in a few years!

Just finished this, to be honest I really enjoyed A Kingdom Besiged and I really enjoyed this book up until

Spoiler: show
Miranda and Nakor came back,  after that I felt all the overpowering magic kinda killed it off for me. If it had just been the nations and their "normal" people fighting it out I would have been really happy. Oh well, I'm guessing the ending is how the world changes? If anyone remembers the two maps of Midikemia?

howdy,

i just read chapter 4 of the version riddled with errors. i was aware of the mistakes before i started reading, so i came online for a bit of help

does anyone know the proper way we're meant to interpret chapter 4? and consequently, chapter 15, because i think that's the next affected chapter?

Spoiler:  • show
was it actually pug or magnus exploring the pantathian homeland in chapter 4? because i've heard it isn't simply a case of mixing the names up, rather a chapter from an earlier draft was inserted into this edition, so that even the dialogue is wrong and reflects the situation. that is, the story might intend that it was magnus who was there in chapter 4, but the dialogue and interaction with the other characters, particularly the pantathians, only make sense if it's pug

Best book he's written in a while, especially the final pages. At first i was like  :o but then i was like     beware direct quotes in my spoiler Caution
Spoiler: show
I quote straight from the book "and then universes exploded"......what did they do! they some how trigggered multiple universal explosions? and the giant looming monster it says "i am that which was left behind" so i presume its either the god of choas from the very beggining, or the madness monster made by the valheru during the chaos wars, and when is thomas going to get hiz lazy arse out of elvandar he needs to get in on this universal explosion action and now theres another valheru and he seems to be calling the dragons for battle, this final book has alot to cover

I just finished A Crown Imperiled.

Having accidentally skipped over A Kingdom Besieged, from...whatever the book was before it....I was a bit confused, however, I'm really impressed with Ray's work this time. I'm really appreciating being left hanging for almost another year, until Magician's End comes out here in the states. If it's anything like the latest book....it will be worth the wait.

The other book? Not so much.

when i read the demonwar saga i thought mr Feist lost the touch...but i have got to say...man i was wrong...a crown imperiled was a masterpiece..kept me on the edge of my seat...only downside of me already finishing the bookl...i have to wait more than a year before the translation of Magician's end is in stores!!!
