Bak is a free download. You can just do a search for it. As for RtK, I found it being sold at amazon.com for less than $10 american.  Found it here.

Also, if you're on the dodgy internet path    , www.isohunt.com (if you use torrents). Checked today, and BaK has about 11 seeds but RtK has 0

p.s. My first post!

Well, there is always Ebay. I have just bought my 17th version of RTK off of Ebay, I wasn't aware it was available via' Amazon....yes, I go through a lot of them, due to kids getting a hold of them, kids stepping on the CD's, my personal best is keeping a RTK set for an entire year.......I still wish there was some sort of RTK expansion pack (Return to a 4-Star Pub? Return to a Dark Hotel? Betrayal At McDonald's?)....but of course, that will never happen, lol.

Oh shut up, Z, let the boy post.

To answer, other people may come into this thread later to find the answer to the same question posed by Thelvaenir. So why not post a link to the game? Seriously.

Let people ask before you answer, normal people don't look at threads years old.

Yay! BAK is still my favourite game ever! ^_^ I hope you enjoy it.

But I'll be very suprised if you manage to get it running right off the bat, so you'd probably better talk to me on MSN so I can help you out. (It's not difficult when you know the various methods of getting old DOS games to run, but BAK is a particularly stubborn one.)

Right. Here is the first method I recommend; modifying your AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT files to run BaK. Here is a quote from one of my posts in another thread detailing how to do it:

Quote from: Macros The Black
Ok, let me lay this all out for you (you may have done some parts already)....AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT can both be found in SYSTEM32 under WINDOWS or WINNT. They can be opened and edited in Notepad.

Here is an example of how the line in AUTOEXEC.NT should be changed:

Original:

REM Install DPMI support
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx

New:

REM Install DPMI support
REM lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx

----

Then you need to add this to CONFIG.NT:

Original (last 3 lines):

dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40

New (last 4 lines):

dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40
emm=ram

---

Now, this is the part you probably missed. Go to the directory where you installed BaK, right-click on Krondor.exe and click Properties. Click on the "Memory" tab. Set all the memory values to the highest they can go, and make sure the "Protected" and "Uses HMA" boxes are checked. Then click Ok to close the "Krondor Properties" window. A .pif file will be created in the same folder as Krondor.exe (it has an MS DOS icon). This file contains the memory settings you just entered.

You can now run either Krondor.exe or Krondor.pif to start the game. Hopefully all goes well. I'm almost 100% certain the game will run if you follow ALL the above instructions, though you may not yet have sound. If the sound in the game doesn't work, run Install.exe and change the sound card setting to one with a checkmark next to it. If "internal speaker" is the only setting with a check mark, come back here.

Good luck.

Be sure to go to File-> Save after you edit the files in Notepad or you'll lose the changes you've made. If anything is unclear, just ask. If this fails, we'll move on to the next method. Also, if there are any programs that will no longer open (this is extremely uncommon, only a rare few very old programs should have problems after you edit the system files) simply change the system files back again.

Like I said in the quote, make sure you run Install.exe and select a soundcard with a checkmark next to it. If only internal speaker is checked, come back and tell me, because trust me, you don't want to have to play using the internal speaker.

It all looks like a lot but it really only takes 5 minutes to follow all the instructions. Good luck. Any problems, come see me.

Or you can just use Dosbox
For me, dosbox worked like a charm.  I was also able to get speech working, for the first time ever.

Yes, well, I always leave DOSBox as a last resort, because you need a high-end PC for BaK to run smoothly on it.

I still have my original CD for BAK...I only made it as far as the Magic Mana level....and that was about 10 years ago....

Haven't played RTK...have to pick that up sometime.  Does that follow the storyline of Krondor:  The Assassins?
